Description

L. HAWKINS.
SAW-BUCK.
Patented Jufy18,1876.
v ITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
LAYToN HAWKINS, OF WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, HENDRICKS ooUNTY,
INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAW -BUCKS.
Specificati n forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,917, dated July 18, 1876; application filed February 18, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAYTON HAWKINS, of
Washington township, Hendricks county,
State ot'lndiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Saw- Bucks, &c., of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of the construction and arrangements of a counterbalance-hook attached to a saw-buck or other like articles, and operated hymeans of a treadle and connecting-rod, to hold firmly the article to be sawed, and to instantly release the article when the weight is removed from the treadle.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a wood-buck, A, to which is added a brace, K, on which is pivoted, at F,
To operate my improved wood-holder, place the wood to be sawed on the buck; then put the foot on the treadle, which will cause the hook J to move the clamp tight on the wood,
and hold it securely while being sawed. I sometimes use the hook J and treadle, constructed and operated as shown, to be attached to a table or bench, to hold meats, &c., while being sawed, and find it a good and useful ii'nprovetnent.
What I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A counterbalance-hook, J, formed with an 7 arm, E, to be operated with a connecting-rod and treadle, I) O, andalso provided with an arm, G, and weight H, and pivoted as shown at F, all arranged to operate and hold wood or other articles while in the act of sawing,
substantially as set forth and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification iu the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LAYTON HAI/VKINS.
