Description
March 31, 1931. w. VORWERK HOSE SUPPDRTER Filed July 22. 1929 Patented Mar. 31, 1931 UNITED STATES WILHELM VORWERK, 01? BARMEN', GERMANY HOSE surron'rnn Application filed July 22, 1929, Serial No. 380,088, and. in Germany August 1, 1928.
My invention relates to hose supporters of the type in which the marginal portion ofa sock or hose is held between a clasp and a button on a pad. It is an object of my in- 5 vention to improve supporters of this type in which the button is made integral with the pad forming an extension of the pad and to this end I make the button and the strap with which it is integral as an independent unit which may be separated from the pad and therefore is readily exchangeable.
Heretofore hose supporters had to be scrapped when their buttons were worn notwithstanding all other parts being in good condition.
In reducing my invention to practice I provide the usual button and clasp for engaging the marginal portion of the sock or stocking but I so design the unit comprising the button and strap that it is readily exchangeable. I may either provide a strapand-button unit with an extension adapted to be secured to a pad or other means connecting it with a leg band or I may secure the 5 unit to a ribbon which in turn is secured to the pad, the unit being for instance, inserted in a pocket of the ribbon.
In the drawings affixed to this specification and forming part thereof two devices em bodying my invention are illustrated diagrammatically by way of example.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is an elevation of a buttonand-strap unit which is provided with an extension adapted to be secured to a loop or the like which in turn is connected with the leg band ithrough the medium of the usual pad or the ike,
Fig. 2 is an elevation showing the unit inserted in a pocket of a ribbon, and
Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the unit viewed from the left in Fig. 1 and partly in section on the line 33 in Fig. 1,
Fig. 4c is an end elevation of the ribbon and the unit, viewed from the left in Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings and first to Figs. 1 and 3, 7 is a button, 7a is a strap with which the button is made integral, 5 is a bracket having end flanges 5a and a clamp 9 pivoted in the flanges at 9 adapted to engage for attaching the bracket to a leg band, not
shown, through the medium of a suitable pad or other intermediate member, not shown.
The bracket 5 may be dispensed with by making the loop 8 and the clasp 6 in a single part, the clamp 9 being arranged on this part intermediate its loop and clasp portion,
or by directly pivoting the loop on the clasp. Obviously, there are other ways of attaching the units to the part or parts by which it is connected with the leg band, and Figs.
2 and 4 only illustrate an example.
Referring now to these figures, they illustrate a unit which is inserted in or secured '70 to a ribbon 11 which is threaded through the loop 8 and fixed thereto by means of the clamp 9 which is pivoted in the flanges 5a of the bracket 5 at 9. Preferably this ribbon has a pocket-shaped member 10 with a button hole on one side, and a flap for concealing the button 7. Its ends may be fringed to prevent them from fraying. The unit is so disposed in the pocket 10 that only the head of the button projects from the pocket. The
flap improves the appearance of the device.
It is evident that the unit may be designed in other ways than herein described, the essen tial feature being its exchangeability, and therefore I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
I claim 1. A hose supporter comprising a bracket, a clasp on said bracket, a ribbon adapted to be threaded through said bracket so as to cov er both sides of said bracket, means for securing said ribbon in said bracket, a button comprising a base plate and a head projecting therefrom and adapted to be engaged by said clasp, a pocket in said ribbon for the reception of said buttonhead-and-base-plate unit, with the base plate concealed in said pocket 1% and the buttonhead projecting therefrom, and a flap on said ribbon extending beyond said bracket and adapted to conceal said buttonhead.
2. A hose supporter comprising a bracket, an eye 011 said bracket for the reception of a clasp, upturned ears 011 said bracket, said upturned ears engaging the Sides of said clasp so as to hold them in said eye, a ribbon adapted to be threaded through said bracket so as to cover both sides of said bracket, a clamp supported in said upturned ears for securing said ribbon in said bracket, a button comprising a base plate and a head projecting therefrom and adapted tobe engaged by said clasp, a pocket in said ribbon for the reception of said buttonhead-and-base-plate unit, With the base plate concealed in said pocket and the buttonhead projecting therefrom, and a flap on said ribbon extending beyond said bracket and adapted to conceal said buttonhead.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
lVILHELM VORWERK.
