This invention relates, generally, to improvementsin vanity boxesorcompacts for carrying cosmetic materials.

The abutting ends of the band forming the receiving socket 23 provide a longitudinal extending slot 27 which facilitates the inser:

the slot 27 permits this socket to spread some what, thereby enabling the cover to bereadily inserted and causing the socket to firmlygrip and hold the lip-stick cover 28. The

lip'stick cover may as readily be removed from the socket by'pulling outwardly upon the cover. r

The lip-stick cover 28 is of the conventional form and receives the lip-stick 29 and its holder 30 having the slide button 31. The pivotal connection of thesocket 23with the separating panels 18 enables the lip-stick and its holder to be readily turned outwardly of'the receiving recess 20 of the lower body section. The receiving socket 28 is illustrated as provided with a spring flange 32 at one end thereof which flange engages retaining frame flange 13 when the lip-stick is positioned within the receiving recess and it engages the bottom of the lower body section when the lipstick is turned fully outwardly of the receiving recess; to thereby frictionally tend to retain the lip-stick in either of these two'limiting positions. If desired, the bottom edges of the separating panels 18 may be integrally interconnected by a bottom web 33 asillustrated in Fig. 4. The use of bottom web 33 serves to more firmly retain the panels 18 in their respective desired positions, but the use of this web is not essential'to the construction of thenovelvanity box Qftllls'lllvention. The side recesses 21 and 22 are adapted to receive suitable cosmetic agencies. Side recess 21 is illustrated as being employed for the reception of a compact rouge 3 which is frictionally retained within this recess, whereas side recess 22 accommodates a rouge applicator 35. Compact rouge 34L is provided with an indenturc 36 to facilitate the removal of this compact rouge from recess 21.

The upper body section? is illustrated as provided with an inlay frame llthat is retained within this body section'by inwardly tioned between this mirror and cosmetic cake 42. In the event that it is desired at any particular application to use merely powder, it is not'necessary to turn the mirror 38 outwardly of the body section 6. When it is desired to use the lip-stick 29 or the rouge cake 34 the mirror 38 may be turned outwardly of the body section 6 permitting access to these cosmetics. lVith the mirror 38 in its outer po sition shown in F ig; 1,- the lip-stick and its cover may be readily swung outwardly by the fingers of one hand while the other hand is used to support the vanity box. The lip-stick and itsholder may then be removed from the cover 28 for use and conveniently returned when desired into initial position shown in this figure.

It will be noted that the novel vanity box of this invention is of simple construction and provides means for conveniently carrying a lip-stick, a rouge cake, a powder compact and applicators therefor-as well as a mirror, all

constructed and arranged so as to enable the use of the vanity box with a maximum of ease and conven1ence,*and wlthout the possl- 'bility of injury to the fingers or applicators.

2. A vanity box comprising, a lower body section and a cooperating upper body section, a retaining frame positioned within said Lil lower body section, spaced separating panels connected to said retaining frame and dividing said lower body sectioninto a plurality of cosmetic receiving recesses, and a lip-stick swivelly mounted 'within one of said cosmetic receiving recesses and arranged to be turned outwardly of said recess for use, and means for releasably holding said lip-stick in either its innermost or outermost twined positions.

3. A vanity box comprising, a lower bod section and a cooperating upper body section, a retaining frame positioned within one of said body sections, spaced separating panels connected to said retaining frame for providing cosmetic receiving recesses in said retaining frame body section, a receiving socket pivotally mounted within one ofsaid receiving recesses, a lip-stick cover removably sup- )orted by said receiving socket, and a lipstick slidably received by said cover, the pivotal mounting of said receiving socket enabling said lip-stick to be turned outwardly of said recess for use.

A vanity box comprising, a lower body section and a cooperating upper body section, a retaining frame positioned within one of said body sections, spaced separating panels connected to said retaining frame for providing cosmetic receiving recesses in said retaining frame body section, said separating panels having bearing apertures therein, a lip-stick receiving socket having projections thereon pivotally mounted in said bearing apertures and a lip-stick positioned in one of said cosmetic receiving recesses and having a cover removably supported in said lip-stick receiving socket, said lip-stick receiving socket having a split wall to facilitate the insertion or removal of the lip-stick cover.

A vanity box comprising a lower body section and a cooperating upper body section, a retaining frame positioned within one of said body sections, spaced separating panels connected to said retaining frame for providing cosmetic receiving recesses in said retaining frame body section, said separating panels having bearing apertures therein, a lip-stick receiving socket having projections thereon pivotally mounted in said hearing apertures, a lip-stick positioned in one of said cosmetic receiving recesses and having a cover removably supported in said lip-stick receiving socket, and a mirror hingedly connected to said retaining frame and foldable into overlying closing relation to said cos metic receiving recesses.

6. A vanity box comprising, a lower body section and an upper body section hinged together, a retaining frame positioned within said lower body section and having a central opening defined by a depending flange with slots therein, separating panels positioned within said lower body section and having portions projecting into and frictionally en gaging the walls of said slots, said separating panels serving to divide said lower body section into a plurality of cosmetic receiving recesses, a lip-stickreceiving socket pivotally mounted on opposed separating panels, a lip-stick positioned within one of said cosmetic receiving recesses and having a cover frictionally retained within said receiving forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 7 16th day of October, 1929.
