FINGER COMB Filed April 15, 1929 gwucntov c/Vae l Onumdww Patented Mar. 10, 1931 PATENT OFFICE I MAE F. OMUNDSON, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA FINGER COMB Application filed April 15, 1929. Serial No. 355,290.
My invention relates to a permanent wave finger comb which is adapted to be used in giving permanent waves to keep the strands of hair spread out evenly and wound straight 5 around the waving or curling rods.
A primary object is in providing a finger comb having one or more rows of teeth in the finger comb so that the operator can nimbly comb the strands of hair evenly and smoothly 10 with the finger and wind the hair over the permanent waving rods.
Heretofore an ordinary comb has been used to straighten the strands of hair being wound on the waver, and it will be readily l5 apparent owing to the fact that it is quite necessary that the operator employ both hands in winding the strands of hair around the waving rods so as to have the same tight, that it is very inconvenient and awkward to have to stop and pick up a comb tocomb the strands of hair straight, and it is essential that the hair be combed out straight to give a good permanent wave. Thus it is apparent by the use of my finger comb which is adapted to fit snugly to the finger, that the operator can much more easily and quickly properly comb the strands of hair, thereby saving considerable time in giving a permanent wave, and I believe permit the operator to give a better wave because she does not have to take her hands ofi of the hair being wound on the wa-vers, but can continue to wind the strands of hair, keeping the strands of hair smoothed out as she goes along.
My finger comb is provided with a support which fits over the finger and which may be made of hard or smooth rubber or other suitable material so as to snugly hold the finger comb in place on the finger and permit the operators fingers to be used in the ordinary manner in holding the hair while being secured to the permanent waving rods.
These features and other details and objects of the invention will be more fully and clearly set forth in the specification and claims.
In the drawings forming part of this specification Figure 1 is a side view of my finger comb.'
Figure 2 is a sectional side view of my finger comb.
Figure 3 is an end View of the same.
Figure 4 is an alternative end view of my finger comb.
My finger comb A includes a finger cot 10 made of hard or smooth rubber or other suitable material over which the hair may freely slide and, preferably 'sufliciently flexible to freely'fit the finger and having a reinforced rib 11 formed about the open end 12 of the same into which the end of the finger is adapted to slip. The finger cot 10 may be formed with openings 13 so as to properly ventilate the finger in the use of my finger comb A. a
The cot 10 of the finger comb A may be formed with a lower wall portion 14 which may be thicker than the remainder of the finger cot 10 so as to firmly support a row of comb teeth 15 which are adapted to project from the side of the finger cot 10. v i It may be desirable in one form of my finger comb, such as B illustrated in Figure 4, to use a double row of comb teeth 15 or even a greater number of comb teeth. However, I have found that a single row of comb teeth, such as 15 illustratedin Figures 1 to 3, inclusive, is Very satisfactory in providing a finger comb which permits the operator in givlng a permanent wave to readily comb the strands of hair straight and keep them straight in winding them tightly about the waving rods.
My finger comb A permits the operator to use thefingers in virtually the ordinary way and yet have the finger comb A attached and in readiness for operation to one of the fin gers so as to quickly smooth or straighten the strands of hair, thereby permitting the operator to give a better permanent wave in a much shorter time, owing to the fact that myfinger'comb dispenses with the use of the ordinary comb which is not only a delay to the operator, but often causes the oper- 95 ator to permit the hair to become loosely attached to the permanent waving device.
My finger comb A permits the operator to separate the strands of hair very easily with the finger and in fact I have found the same .19
to operate so successfully in my work in permanent waving that it makes the giving of a permanent wave much more easy and pleasant for the operator.
A feature of importance of my finger comb resides in the short comb teeth which do not interfere withthe 'free operation of theoperators :fingers in any Way and this is highly important to the operator. The same may be quickly removed from the finger or applied and I believe is al'most'a'n'indispensable 1utility in the art of waving and combing the air.
In accordance with the patent statutes I have described the principles of my finger comband While 1 have endeavored to represent the best embodiment thereof in its'si'mplicity and most desirable form, it is'apparent that obvious changes may'be'made within the scope of the following claims without departing from the purpose and intent of the invention.
11 claim:
1. A finger comb for use in hair waving including, a finger cot, 0ne wall of which is substantially thickened, and a series of comb teeth projectingtherefrom.
2. A finger comb for hair waving including aseries'of comb teeth of substantially hardmaterial projecting therefrom and a finger cot for supporting said teeth of a smooth non-hair pulling nature.
3. Afinger comb for hair waving including, a flexible finger tip havinga thickened wall portion, and a series of comb teeth projecting therefrom from said thickened wall portion.
4. A finger comb for hair waving including,-a flexible finger engagingmember, and a row of metallic comb teeth for combing strands ofhair projecting therefrom.
5. A finger comb for permanent waving made of smooth material over which the hair may freely 'slideineluding, a -finger cot, and a'series of comb "teeth embedded within and projecting therefrom.
'6. A fin er comb including, a finger cot, a thin flexible wall formed in said cot having a series of ventilating openings therein, and a thickened wall on one side, and a series of comb teeth embedded 'insaid wall and projecting therefrom.
-7. A comb for the hair including, a finger cot adapted to fit a finger, and a series of comb teeth proj ecti'ng'therefrom, said cot and teeth being formed of a materialover which the hair may freely slide.
