Description

M. VON B'EUST.
SOAP-CUTTING MACHINE.
Patented July 4,1876.
'WASHNGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI.
MAX VON BEUST, OF NEW ALBANY, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SOAP-CUTTING MACHINES.
4 Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. I 79,435, dated July 4, 1876; application tiled February 2, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MAX VoN BEUsT, of New Albany, Floyd county, State of Indiana, have invented certain improvements in Machines for Cutting Soap, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to provide.
a machine which will cut, with ease and certainty, bars of soap into certain given lengths.
My invention consists in' constructing a machine for this purpose, which consists of a bed-plate, to which is attached a standard, which has fulcrumed to the upper part an arched lever, provided in front with a handle. To steady the lever in its upward and downward movement a guide is attached to the bed-plate in front of the lever. To this bedplate is also fastened, under the bow or arch of the lever, a trough provided with a gaging attachment, and also provided with a slot out across the trough. Between the lower ends of both legs of the arch of the lever is suspended a wire, by aid of keys or set-screws,
allowing it to be tightened when slackened by use. This wire is suspended above the forementioned slot in the trough, and when the lever is depressed the wire descends into the slot. A bar of soap, when placed in the trough, can thus readily be cut into given lengths by pushing it forward to any given point indicated by the gage and depressing the lever, by-which action the wire \vill cut through the soap.
In order to describe my invention more full y, I refer to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
Figure I is a side view of a machine embodying my invention. Fig. II is a plan view of the same.
A is the bed-plate; B, the standard, to which is fulcrumed the lever O, with arch c and handle I). D is the guide for the lever O. E is the wire, stretched between the key d and the screw 6. G is the trough with slot 9 and scale or gage H.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim The arched lever U, with handles 12, key (I, screw 6, and wire E, in combination with the trough Gr, provided with slot 9 and gage H, the guide D, standard B, and bed-plate A, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
MAX VON BEUST.
