This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a combined letter sheetand envelope and has for its primary object to provide a letter sheet folded into envelope formation and constructed in a manner that when folded and sealed, tampering with the same to gain access will be impossible without leaving evidence of such action.

A further obj ect of the invention is to provide a combined letter sheet and envelope of rectangular formation in open plan view with a line of tearing perforations adjacent each side edge and one end defining a tearing margin that is adhesively coated, the gummed side edges being adhesivelysecured together when the blank is folded into envelope formation, while the end of the blank provided with the tearing line of perforation is folded in a manner to provide a relatively short end 2o flap sectionwith the end gummed edge adhesivelysecured to the blank with the postage stamp .overlying the edge of the end flap section. A further obj ect of the invention is to provide a combined letter sheet and envelope of the above type carrying a side section having a transparent window therein for overlying the address upon the envelope to prevent tampering therewith without detection, this form of the invention further embodying the idea of locating the transparent window at one end of the letter sheet blank.

With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

'To open the envelope the side gummed areas 9 are severed upon the line of tearing perfo-fr rations 7 while va pin or similar instrument may `be employed for Y severing the line of tearing perforations 8 to permit the envelope to be opened into letter formation.

ln the form of the invention shown in Figures 4, 5 and 6 the blank 1a as shown in Figurev 4 comprises a plurality of sections 10 with a relatively short end iiap section 6a, the blank 1a being-provided adjacent its opposite edges with lines Vof tearing Aperforations 7 while a line of tearing perforations 8 are located adjacent the free edge of the end iap 6a, the areas 9 being gummed.. The blank 1a shown in`Figure 4 is folded into envelope formation as shown in Figure 5 with the stamp S orseal-adhesively attached thereto as illustrated. Accessv to the contents of this envelope is attained in the same manner as described inl connection with the envelope formation shownin Figure 2.

The form of the invention illustrated in Figures 7, 8 and9 diers from the showingY in Figure 4 by the provision of spaced parallel rows or lines 11 of tearing perforations adjacent each side edge of the blank that is comprised ofthe several sections 10 foldableupon the

4 and 5 that define double areas of strip formation indicated by the numeral 12 that receive a coating of adhesive. Theend flap 6a has adouble row or line of tearing perforations 13 to provide double gummed areas 12 and when the blank is folded into envelope formation as shown in Figurel 8 it is necessary to severthe body on the inner line of tearing. perforations, the double line of tearing perforations providing a double safety seal which will readily indicate tampering of any character with the sealed envelope.

It will be observed that in each of the forms of the invention as above described, there is provided'side lines of tearing perforations and a relatively short end flap section having a gummed edge and a line of tearing perforations inwardly of the gunnned edge with the stamp or seal overlying the gummed edge of the end sealing Hap or section, access to the contents of the envelope is attained in each form by severing the body upon the side lines of the tearing perforation while the end iiap is released by tearing on the line of perforations formed therein. j l

Inthe'form of the invention shown `in Figures 10,11 and 12, the letter sheet blank is lsimilar to the blank shown in Figure 4 and comprises lthe sections 10, end sealing flap 6a,

The several ksections 10 are foldablel upon each other on the lines 4 with the side flap seotion 14 foldable thereover and retained bythe end sea-ling flap 6a as vshown in Figures 11 and 12. The envelope is opened upon severuk ing the same on the tearing lines of perforar# tions while theaddress being covered by the window 15 eliminates the possibility of tam. pering therewith. f I

Still another form of the invention is shown in Figures -13 to 15 wherein the'lettersheet blank comprising sections 10is of rectangular formation with a transparent window 15a formed in'oneof the end sections. The sections 10'of the blank have the side lines of tearing perforations 7 and the endline of tearing perforations in thesection thatcarries the transparent window 15a. The' blank shown in Figure 13 assumes the envelope formation shown in Figure 14 with the several lines of tearing perforations registering as shown in Figure 15.

' `While there are herein shown and described the preferred embodiments of the present invention it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be -made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. n f

What I claim as new is v A combined letter sheet and envelope consisting of an elongated sheet of-pa-per of rec tangular form, composed of aplurality of sections foldable on transverse lines with the intermediate sections being of substantially the same area, and a side laterally foldable at section in line with one of the aforesaid intermediate sections and of the same area as the carrying section having lines of tearing perforations running lengthwise of the sheet and the full length of the flap section, with a transparent window in the side flap section, the side section having an adhesive applied to its surface outwardly of the line of tearing perforations whereby the end of the folded article may be sealed.
