Description

Feb. 17, 1931. V DYER 1,793,214
EXERCISING APPARATUS Filed Feb. 7, 1929 INVENTOR Patented Feb. 17, 1931 UNITED STATES FRANK I. DYER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
EXERCISING AP PABATUS Application filed February 7, 1929. Serial No. 338,097.
disclosed for use upon opening said door and in that application I show a connection be iii tionary abutment independent of the hinges of the door whereby the strains and stresses incident to use will not be imposed upon said hi gas. In this application I refer to amoditied arrangement in which the exercising apparatus is supported independently of the door so that not only will the vibrating due to operation be independent of but the weight of the apparatus t is the purpose of my present case also.
to iilescribe and specifically claim this modification.
In order that the invention may be better understood, attention is directed to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specil cation, and in which- V Figure 1 is a horizontal sectional view through a door and the jamb thereof showing a. conventional form of exercising apparatus in plan; and V Figure 2 is a side elevation partly in section, showing one of the door jambs.
In both of the above views corresoonding parts are represented by the same numerals.
The door 1 closes the opening between two door jambs 2, 2, and is supported on ordinary hinges 3. Said door preferably closes closet so that when shut the apparatus will be concealed therein. A. bracket 4 having an inclined brace member 5 is mounted upon one of the door jambs as shown, on heavy cast metal plates 6, 6 having horizontal ears 7, 7 receiving the pivot pins 8, 8 so as to form a F very'strong and rigid mounting for the frame W 4, 5.
tween the exercisingmechanism and a sta-.
The bracket member 4 carries a base 9 upon which 18 mounted the base 10 of the exercising apparatus. Preferably anti-friction balls l' are interposed between these elements so as 10 and connects with a suitable bracket 14 secured to any fixed element, such as one of the door jambs 2 as shown. A spring 15 keeps the strap 12 normally taut.
The exercising apparatus shown, comprises an electric motor lfidriving a shaft 17 by which the plui'igers 18, 18 are operateiil. These plungers are connected by an endless belt 19 which is placed a round the body of the user. 7
A. heavy spring 20 preferably connects the door 1 with the base plate 9 so that when said door is opened the apparatus will be swung out into operative position. It may be held in this position by hook arm 21 secured to one of the door jambs and engaging a lug 22 on the base plate 9.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows 1.'In exercising apparatus, the combination with a doorway and a door adapted to close the same, of a hingedbracket pivoted within said doorway independent of the door, motor driven vibrating mechanism carried by said bracket and movable in a horizontal plane independently thereof, and a connec tion between said mechanism and a stationary abutment.
2. In exercising apparatus, the combination with a doorway and a door adapted to close the same, of a hinged bracket pivoted within said doorway independent of the door, motor driven vibrating mechanism carried by said bracket and movable in horizontal plane independently thereof, a connection between sa-id mechanism and a stationary abutment, and a spring for imposing tension on said connection.
