Description

July 7, 9 M. DEMLINGER mnrmcn COMBINATION FOLDING BED AND IMI'IATION F Filed May 27, 1929 INVENTOR .Demlyycr' ATTORNEYd Patented July 7, 1931 UNITED sures PATENT; OFFICE Application filed May 27,
My invention relates to improvements in combination folding bed and imitation fireplace, and it consists in the combinations,'constructions, and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide a combination folding bed and imitation fireplace which'requires substantially the same space ordinarily used for the imitation fireplace and provides sufficient room for the folding be i A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described which is simple in construction, compact in form and durable and efficient for the purpose intended.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
y invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this ap plication, in which I Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device in closed position,
Figure 2 is a side sectional viewof my device in open position, and
Figure 3 is a section substantially along the line 33 of Figure 2.
In carrying out my invention I provide a housing or cabinet portion 1 which is provided with doors 2 which are hingedly secured thereto as at 3. The .doors 2 simulate the brick portion of the fireplace and are provided with cutaway portions 4 that are arranged to receive a fireplace unit 5. The unit 5 is rigidly secured to a main frame 6 of a bed unit indicated generally at 7. v
The frame6 is substantially L-shaped in general'contour and is pivotally secured to the head portion 8 as-at 9. The head portion 8 is also substantially L-shaped in general contour and is arranged to receive the main frame 6 when in folded position. The head portion 8 is mounted upon rollers indicated at I provided and this fireplace MORRIS DEML INGER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS COMBINATION FQLDING BED AND IMITATION FIREPLACE 1929. Serial No. 366,452.
10 which are arranged to move in tracks if. so desired. The main frame 6 has apivotal portion 11 which is arranged to support the head portion of the spring 12. The pivotal portion 11 has one end pivotally connected at 13 to the angular portion of the framel6, and the otherend pivotally connected at 14: to the head portion 8. A front leg portion 18' is swingably secured to the frame 6 by means of links 19, and is so arranged to support the frame 6 at its outer end when in open position. I From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. In Figure 1 the device is shown in closed position and has the general appearance of a fireplace. To move the bed into open position the doors 2 are swung about their hinges S into open position. lVhen the frame 6 is in'closed position it rests within the head portion 8, and the leg portion 18 is in parallel alignment with the frame 6. By pulling outwardly upon'the upper end of the frame 6, it may be moved about its pivot 9. During this movement of the frame 6 the front leg portion 18 maybe swung into open position for supporting the outer end of the frame. Furthermore, the pivotal portion 11 is brought 7 to a position in alignment with the horizontal portion of the frame 6. The bed portion may be moved out of the housing 1, as indicated in Figure 2, and moved back into the housing when in folded position. With this structure the ordinary imitation fireplace is provides sufficient space for the folding bed. Y
One of the outstanding advantages of this v deviceis the utilizing of the space ordinarily required for an imitation fireplace for concealing a folding bed. Furthermore the necessary closet space generally required for 1 the folding bed is done away with and a cabinet is provided for the folding bed without requiring additional space.
I claim: A device of the type described comprising a housing, a bed, means whereby said bed may be folded so as to be disposed in said housing, 5 a fireplace unit carried by said bed, and a door for said housing having a cutaway portion arranged to conform to said fireplace unit when said door is in closed position.
Signed at Chicago, in the county of Cook, 10 and State of Illinois, this 16th day of May,
MORRIS "DEMLINGER.
