BOLT ANCHOR Filed Dec. 17, 1929 diii .a gmmmmamm gnuantoz I a err Patented Feb. 17, 1931 v UNITED STATES oLAaE w. GERRY, or roar WILLIAM, oNrAniofoAnAnA BOL I Anonon Application filed December 17, 1929. Serial No 414,724.
The present invention relates to bolt anchors and more particularly to anchors adapted to be mounted between bricks or the like. 7
An object of this invention is to provide a 7 device of this character which may be inserted in a relatively small opening betweena pair of bricks and which will stay in desired position upon turning of the bolt.
Another object of this invention is to provide an anchor of this character which may be cheaply manufactured so as to render its use exceedingly practical particularly in the mounting of conduits, pipes or the like. A-further object of this invention isto pro vide an anchor which will require a relatively small opening and is particularly adapted to be mounted in an opening cut in the mortar or cement which is used for holding bricks or the like together.
The above and various other objects and advantages of this invention will in part be described in and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the presout preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein Fig. 1 is a detail perspective view of abolt anchor constructed according to the preferred embodiment of this invention;
Fig. 2 is a detail bottom plan View of the device;
Fig. 3 is a vice; and
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section, partly in elevation. taken substantially through the center of the device;
Fig. 5 is a transverse section partly in elevation of the device; and i Fig. 6 is a transverse section partly in elevation showing a modification of the device. Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the
detail top plan View of the denumeral 10 designates generally an anchor member which is adapted to be inserted in an opening formed between a pair of bricks, the opening being preferably cut into the mortar or cement which is adapted to hold the bricks together. The anchor member 10 comprises a substantially V-shaped body member 11 wh ch 1s provided at the inner end portion thereof with an upstanding extension 'or guide plate 12'. The plate 12 is preferably provided with a slotted opening 13 whichextends downwardly from the upper end portion and terminates at a point spacednpwardly from the lower end. The upper edge portions of the inner plate member 121nay be tapered as at 14.
The body plate 11 is preferably positioned at an inclined angle from the rear plate 12 "and is provided with a pair of supporting leg members 15 which are preferably tapering in side elevation and are provided with corrugated or wave-like portions 16 along the lower edge portion thereof so as to materially strengthen the leg members. The body plate 11 is provided with an elongated slotted portion 17 spaced inwardly from the outer end thereof through which a threaded bolt member 18 is adapted to loosely extend. The bolt member 18 is provided with a nut or anchor member '19 ,which is preferably mounted on the bolt 18 between the outer.
face portion of the plate member 12 and the slotted portion 17 of the body plate. The outer edge portions ofl the-leg members 15 are preferably'bent inwardly so as to provide a looped upper end portion as at 20 through which the bolt 18 isadapted to loosely extend. As shown in Figure 6.,the bolt member 18 may be reversed and a nut 21 mounted on the bolt so as to draw the bolt outwardly and draw the movable member 19 upwardly on the inclined plate 11; In the operation of this device. when a suitable openin has been formed between a pair of brick members or in'any othersolid wall construction, the anchor plate 10 is adapted to be placed in the opening and a hanger element or the like inserted on the bolt 18. The bolt 18 may then be turned inwardly and when the hanger portion engages the outer face of the wall or building structure, the movable anchormember 19 will be forced outwardly and will ride upwardly on the inclined surface of the plate 11. The movable anchor member 19 will'press against the plate 11 and force the leg or stationary anchoring members 15 against the opposite face portion of the opening so as to securely hold the anchor Within the opening.
In the present instance, the stationary member 10 has been constructed with the rear plate 11 and the anchoring members 15 formed integral with the plate member 11. It of course understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design oi the above specifically described embodiment of the invention without departing: from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifiertions being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
What is claimed is 1. A bolt anchor of the character described comprising an anchor plate having); an inclined body bracing means comprising marginal webs at right angles to the plane of said plate, said plate having an elongated slotted portion spaced inwardly from the outer end thereof. a movable anchoring member engaging said plate on the inclined body thereof, operating means for said movable member, said operatinrr means being adapted to extend through said slotted portion of said plate whereby to permit the adjustment of said operating means coactively with the movement of the movable member on the inclined body, and guide means for said operating means.
2-. A bolt anchor of the character described comprising a stationary anchoring member, said stationary anchoring member comprisi 11;: an angularly positioned plate, anchoring means mounted on the opposite side portions of said plate, said anchoring means having substantially corrugated lower end portions, said plate having slotted opening adjacent the forward end thereof a movable anchorin g member slidably engaging said plate, operating: means for said movable anchoring member, and guide means for said operating; means upstandin from said plate.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
