1 Claim.
My invention relates generally to pipe hangers, and particularly to devices generically known by these names which are designed to support a pipe, shaft, conduit or the like in a building by engaging the same with the structural iron beams or girders constituting the framework of the building, and an important object of my invention is to provide a structurally strong, easily handled, and relatively inexpensive arrangement of this character.
Other important objects of my invention will be apparent from a reading of the following description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein for purposes of illustration I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a general view showing a structural beam, and a pipe or conduit in section and showing the device of the invention in side elevation.
Figure 2 is an elevational View looking from right to left in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the hanger. Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 5 generally designates the embodiment which consists of a'J-shaped anvil portion 6 having at the terminal of its standard the substantially cylindrical tubular threaded member I which receives the square headed cupped end set screw 8 which is adapted to engage the top of the flange 9 of the girder or beam H! in the manner indicated in the drawing. At the terminal of the arcuate portion of the anvil 6 is the upwardly and angularly projecting solid bearing block I l which has a concaved upper end I2 for engaging the underside of the flange 9 of the beam l0. From the lower end of the block I l and the outer side thereof proceeds the laterally projected pipe holder portion 13 which conformably engages the lower side of the pipe I4.
The screw 8 and the bearing block II are laterally spaced so as to engage vertically disaligned portions of the flange 9 of the girder ill, the screw 8 being disposed to engage the flange 9 at a point to the left of the vertical center of the 5 pipe 14 as indicated in Figure 1 of the drawin whereby the necessary clamping action is obtained when the screw is tightened to draw the pipe or the like I4 up against the bottom of the flange 9. The concavity in the lower end of the 10 screw 8 is indicated by the numeral 15. A reinforcing rib IG runs the length of the J-shaped anvil and connects with the cylindrical portion 1 and with the block H.
Although I have shown and described herein 15 a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be definitely understood that I do not desire to limit the application of the invention thereto, and any change or changes may be made in the materials and in the structure and arrangement 20 of the parts, within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having described the invention, claimed as new is:
A pipe hanger of the class described compris- 25 ing a substantially J-shap'ed part providing a shank and an arcuate-shaped portion, the free end of the shank having a laterally extending threaded hole therein, a set screw passing through the hole, an inwardly extending projec- 30 tion at the end of the arcuate portion, said projection being out of alignment with the set screw and an arcuate pipe holder portion having one end connected with the outer portion of that end of the arcuate-shaped part of the J-shaped 35 body to which the projection is connected, the pipe holder portion being spaced from the inner end of the screw.
