HANGER-SUPPORT.
1,037,277. u Specification of To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW MARTIN,- a
Moosic, county of Lackawanna, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented'certain new and useful Improvements in Hanger-Supports, of which the following 'is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in hanger supports, the object of the invention being to provide a support which may be readily removed and used over and over again, and which facilitates the placing in position of the hanger and ,its removal whenever desired.
A further object is to provide an improved device' of this character which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonably low cost, and which will most effectually hold the hanger when in use.
With these and other objects in View, the invent-ion consists incertain novel features rangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a view in elevation illustrating my-im provements. Fig. 2, is a view in longitudi-'- nal section on an enlarged scale showing the support and thebolt therein. Fig. 3, is a view in section on the line 33 of Fig.
4-4 of Fig. 2.
1, represents a hanger such as in common use for supporting an electr c conductor 2,
improvements are especially adapted for use in mines, and other tunnel structures, in which it is necessaryto provide means for holding the hanger in the ceiling or roof of the tunnel. These tunnels have ordinarily ceilings or roofs of stone or other similar mineral which it is necessary to bore or myimproved hanger support is mounted. This hanger support comprises two members 3 and 4, which are curved in cross section and have beveled or inclined contacting edges 5. so that when they are moved longitudinally in opposite directions, the support will be expanded transversely, and when Application filed August 21,
Letters Patent- Patented Sept. 3, 1912.

moved in the opposite direction will be contracted 'transversely' In the end of member .3, Which constitutes the upper end of said member, a screw-threaded enlargement G ,is provided for the reception of a bolt 7. This bolt 7 is projected through the upper cross piece 8 of hanger 1, is provided with a head 9 below aid cross piece, andat the upper end is screwed through the extension 6. After a recess .or hole is bored or drilled into the ceiling, the members 3'and4 are placed into this opening, and member 4 is driven upwardly so as to tightly bind the members in the opening or recess. Bolt 7, which has been previously inserted through the cross piece 8 of the hanger, is then screwed into the extension 3 until the'hanger is properly positioned. If it is desiredto remove the hanger, and its support, it is simply necessary to unscrew thebolt andthen with a hammer drive member 3 upwardly, so as to reduce its dimension transversely, when it can be readily removed from the recess in the ceiling and be used again.
Various. slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth. but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit r land scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim asnewand desire tosecurc hy Letters Patent is:
A hanger support comprising two members, both, having inclined contacting faces throughout their length, and botlfmcmbers curved transversely. an enlargement on the inner larger end of one member projecting into the curved smaller end of the other member, and. said enlargement having a screw-thread ed bolt receiving Opening therein. substantially as describeth In testimony whereof I have signed. my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
I ANDREW MARTIN.
