POCKETBOOK AND HOLDER THEREFOR Filed Jan. 12, 1928 INVENTOR. James F. 012m.
Patented Feb. 17, 1931 JAMES F. oynnnor Demon, MICHIGAN I rocx irnoox AND notnnnrnnnnron Application filed January 12, 1928. Serial No. 246,138. 1
I My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a pocket book and a holder therefor, and has for its object the prevention of theft or undue removal of a pocket book a from the person ofthe owner.
Another object of the invention is'the provision of a retaining member which may be fastened to. the person and provided with a cross bar adapted for insertion through eyele lets formed in the pocket-book.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
.The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described andclaimed.
The invention will be best understood by a reference to the accompanying drawings which form a part ofthis specification and in which, v
' Fig. 1 is a perspective View of the retain- 2 ing member. I
Fig. 2 1s a perspective vlew of the lnvention in assembled form. v
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the pocket book in opened form.
In the drawings I have illustrated a bill fold fabricated to resemble a conventional type of bill fold, although from the description given it will be apparent that the invention may be used with different types of 39 bill folds, purses, and the like, and in the specification and claim the term pocket book is intended to include such devices. A retaining member is used with'the invention comprising a supporting member 15 which may be mounted upon the belt of the wearer or upon some part of the garments worn by the wearer. Fixedly attached to and depending from the supporting member 15 is a flexible member 16 preferably formed from chain or some material which cannot be easily broken or cut. Mounted at its transverse medial line on the end of the flexible member 16 is a cross bar 17.
In the drawings I have illustrated the bill fold as comprising two sections which are sewed together, the outer section being'foldable and comprising the flaps 8, 8' and 8".
The inner layer comprises the fiaps' 7, 7 and 7 the flaps 7 and 8 beingfoldable upon the 5B flaps 7 and 8 and the flaps 8 and 7 being folded over the flaps 7 and 8. Mounted in the flap 8 is a grommet 9 registering with an opening 13 formed in the flap 7'. A grommet 10 is mounted in the flap 8" registering with an opening 14 formed inthe flap 7". .55 An opening 11 is formed in the flap 7 registering with the opening 12 formed in the flap 8. It will be noted that the 'eyelets 9 and 10 are positioned on the outer sides of the bill fold when folded into the position shown in Fig. 2.
In operation, after the supporting mem- 7 her 15 is mounted upon the belt or other part a of the garments worn by the person using it,
the cross bar 17 'is projected through the grommet 9, the openings 13,11, 12 and 14, and through the grommet 10, this cross bar 17 then being moved into the position shown in Fig. 2. When the device is'worn upon the belt,it is believed preferablethat the purse be positioned interiorly of the trousers of the wearer, thus relieving the pockets of a bulgy weight.
It is evident that the bill fold cannot be removed or opened until the same is slid upwardly on the flexible member 16 sufficiently to allow the cross bar 17 to be brought into alignment with the flexible element so that it may be withdrawn from the grommets and openings formed in the bill fold.
In this way I have provided a simple and inexpensive device which may be easily and, quickly attached to the person, and whichmay be easily and quickly locked in retaining position on the bill fold so that the security of the billfold and the safety desired is obtained. 7
VVhile'I have illustrated anddescribed the preferred form of my invention, I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details of 99 structure shown, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent is:
A foldable bill fold formed from an inner flap forming portion and an outer flap forming portion, said portions being secured together at their end edges and spaced from W) each other and forming, when in folded relation, a central flap on each of said portions, and a pair of end flaps on each of said portions each of said flaps having an opening formed therein, said openings being in registration when said portions are in folded relation; a grommet mounted in the opening formed in the central flap and in one of the end flaps of said outer flap forming portion.
In testimony whereof I have signed the foregoing specification.
JAMES F. OYLER.
