(Cl. 150-40) This invention relates to key holders and more particularly to a key holder provided with a wrapper in which the keys may normally be enclosed.

An object of this invention is to provide a key holder of flexible sheet material in which a plurality of keys may be positioned and with a flexible member secured to the wrapper for securing the keys in position in the wrapper.

Another object of this invention is to provide a key holder wherein the flexible member for securing the keys in position in the wrapper also serves to retain the wrapper in folded position.

A further object of this invention is to provide a key holder having a flexible member threaded thereto for securing a plurality of keys in position therein and which flexible member has a free end which can be wrapped around the wrapper for retaining the wrapper in folded position.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a key holder which is simple and eflicient in construction, and durable and lasting in use.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the manner of folding the flexible wrapper and the means for retaining the flexible wrapper in folded position with the keys disposed within the wrapper;

Figure 2 is a plan view showing the manner of threading the flexible member to the wrapper and with a key extending therefrom; and

Figure 3 is a plan view showing the positioning of the keys in the wrapper with the ends of the wrapper being in unfolded position.

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that the improved key holder forming the subject of this invention includes, a body or sheet of flexible material, such as leather or the like, having a mid or intermediate portion 12 and opposite foldable flaps or

end portions

14 and 16. The

14 and 16 are adapted to be folded so as to lap each other and overlie the mid portion 12 of the body 10.

Means is provided for securing a plurality of keys 18 to the mid portion 12 and for securing the

end portions

14 and 16 in overlying relationship. This means comprises a pair of

apertures

20 and 22 disposed adjacent one end of the mid portion 12, a pair of

apertures

24 and 26 disposed adjacent the other end of the mid portion 12 and a single aperture 28 positioned adjacent the

apertures

24 and 26 and between the

apertures

24 and 26 and the

apertures

20 and 22. A flexible strand or member 30 is provided with a knot 32 and is threaded through the

apertures

20, 22, 24, 26 and 28. The manner of threading the flexible member 30 is to insert the end of flexible member 30 opposite the knot 32 through the aperture 20 so that the knot 32 will abut the face of mid portion 12 on the side which is to be disposed interiorly of the body 10 when the

end portions

14 and 16 are folded over the mid portion 12. Then, the member 30 is inserted through the aperture 22 and extends along the interior face of mid portion 12 and passes outwardly through the aperture 28. The member 30 then passes inwardly through the aperture 24 and then outwardly through the aperture 26. The keys 18 are adapted to be received on the portion 34 of member 30' which extends between the aperture 22 and the aperture 28.

In order to secure the free ends of the member 30 against unwrapping the

end portions

Then, the free end 36 is wrapped around the folded body 10 and the free end is inserted through the aperture 38 and into the slot 40 to retain the member 36 in position. The keys can then be carried in a pocket without the danger of damaging the pocket due to chafing action. When it is desired to use one of the keys, the free end of member 36 is withdrawn from the slot 40 and aperture 38 and held in one hand while the body 10 is left free to drop. This will unwrap the key holder and allow access to the keys. Then, the selected one of the keys can be moved to extended position and the body 10 folded and rewrapped, if desired. By providing apertures 38 and slots 40 in each of the

end portions

14 and 16, the

end portions

14 and 16 may be indiscriminately folded against the mid portion 12 and an aperture 38 and slot 40 will always be accessible for the insertion of the free end of end portion 36.

From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

A key holder comprising: a substantially rectangular flexible, foldable sheet including an intermediate portion having spaced apertures therein and end flaps for folding in lapped relation to each other over said intermediate portion, said flaps having apertures in the free end portions thereof and further having slits therein communicating with the second-named apertures, and a flexible strand for insertion through the keys, threaded through the firstnamed apertures and having one end anchored to the sheet for mounting the keys thereon, said strand being windable around the folded sheet for securing the flaps in closed position and engageable selectively in the slits through the respective second-named apertures for frictionally anchoring the other end of said strand.
