PICTURE FRAME HANGER Filed March 20, 1930 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 10, 1931` GABRIEL YSA'MIABID, 0F. CANBY,A OREGON PICTURE-FRAMEHANGER Application filed March 20,
The object of this invention is the provision of simple means for adj ustably securing a picture wire or cord upon a picture frame which will obviate the necessity of twisting the wire against a screw eye or the like and depending the adjustment of the picture by such twisting, and which, in addition to providing a means for securely fastening the wire to` the frame permits of the adjustment of the frame on the wire, so that the picture canbeY hung at desired elevations and effectively retained inproper position.
wire clamps.
Figure 4 is a sectional `view approximately on the hne4-4 of Figure 2.
Figure is a perspective view of the base n member or clamp.
Figure 6 is a similar view of the spring inv fluenced pivoted clamp member or dog.
As disclosed by Figure 2 of the drawings one end of a wire or picture cord 1 may be attached to the back of a picture frame 2 by 1 connecting the said wire to the usual screw eye. The wire is directed around the' looped portion of a hanger 3 which is secured to the wall of a room. The second'end of the wire 1 is secured on the picture frame by myimprovement. e V
Before entering a detailed description `of the improvement it is to be stated that instead of one, two of such clamps may be fixed on the rear face of the picture frame, as disclosed by Figure 3 of the drawings in which Vinstance two supporting wires are employed.
Each of the clamps comprises a base plate 4 formed, adjacent its ends with openings through which pass securing elements that enter the rear of the picture frame. Each base plate, adjacent to what I will term its outer end is provided with an outstanding right angle lip 5 and this lip has.v a central i930. serial No. 437,549. v
opening 6 therethrough fory the passage ofthe.
wire- 1. The 'base plate is provided withlon-V v-i gitudinally extending 'spaced 'side flanges` 7 disposed a suitable distance inward` of its.
edges, andthe plate'between Jthelip and the side flanges .is open, as vi'ndicatedfby :the numeral 8.. f f
:Pivotally secured, as at`9, vbetween thesis@ flanges 7 vof the base Aplate 4 therey are the sides 10 ofthe bodyv plate11 of thejavv carrying .member or dog. The jaw of the-dog Vvis formed by bending one endof the plate 11 fat an acute angle, as indicated-by the numeral 12, andthis angle end is formed witha central 'notchl 13 which is designed -to .be arranged opposite the opening 6 inthe lip v 5.! The notch` substantially V-shaped and the outer,y edge of thel dog endgof. the swingable V-'shaped ,openings :14' thaty affordV therebe- 'around'the pivot k9a'nd hasoneend contacting with the plate 11 and its'other end conmeinber ofthe clamp :is provided with otherV Y tacting'with the frame 2, the said end4 of the` spring beingv received in the opening 6.
By reference to Figure4' ofthe drawings it will be noted that the angle or jawy end of the dog element of the clamp is disposed v.
a suitable distance inward of thelip 5 0f the base plate 4, andlilrewise that the depth-of thenotch 13 is such that the same will cause the portion of the'wire received through the opening 6 and through the notch 13 to as- 'Y sume an angle, and further that because of the angle walls provided bythe notch 13 the kwire will vbe frictionally engaged by'such walls. In addition'to this it willbe noted that the points 15y will, through Vthe medium of the spring 16, enter, fto a determined eX- tent'the wooden' frame 2, so that'the dog is effectively held from accidental movement andthe wire that passes through the improvement is tightly held between the lip and jaw and likewise the angle or offset portion thereof engaged in the notch13 is forcedV against theV inner face of the frame 2.
It is believed the foregoing description when read in connection with the accompanying drawings will fully set forth the construction andV advantages of the improvement to those skilledin the art to which such invention relates so that `:further description will not be required. n Havingv described the invention, I Claim:l
j l. A devieefor adjustably clampinga supporting Wire or cord on a pieture frame 1neluding a base plate, a right angle lip on the base plate havingan opening therethrough Y for the passage of the Wire, side anges on lo the plate, a deg having side flanges Which are pivoted in the side flanges of theplate and which has a notched end that is bent at an angle to the body of the dog and'ivhioh is arranged opposite but spaced from the lip l of the plate, a spring for swinging the angle end of the dog toward the plate to Cause the notch in said end to be arranged out of aline with the opening in the lip. i 1 'n A2. A clamp for adjustably-securing a pic-` ture Wire on a picture frame, comprising a base plate, said plate having an outstanding right angular lip provided with an aperture for the passage ofthe Wire therethrough and y .Y Y having longitudinally extending side flanges' 25 and a portionbetvveen the plate and theside e flanges beingcut away, a clamping dog hav ing side flanges which are pivotally secured between the side flanges of the plate, said dog 4 Y also having an end that is bent atan angle l to y the body of the dog and is formed with a Y pluralityof Ueshap'ed notches, the said end beingarranged opposite but out of Contact v with the lip of theplate, one of the notches 'in the bent endof the dog designed to receive the VWire therein for lbinding engagement therewitlnfor holding theV Wire adj usted and the remaining teeth of the dog designed to bite into the picture frame.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature.
