7 tion, the present improved"bobbindatching device has been applied to a sewing machine loop-taker of the velrtical axistypeg in which 'theEbobbin-carrier isprovidedwith ,a peripheral bearing-ribjournaled in a loop-taker raceway. The bobbin-carrier isopen at its top and has at it's/bottom a narrow flange projecting inwardly from'the side wall of the carrier, upon which flange the bobbin-1ssupported. Upo'nits upper rim, the bObbllb carrier is provided with shoulders engageable with stationary stop-elements to limit move-iment of the carrierto slight oscillations about the loop-taker axis. 1 a

Referring'to the drawings, the'present improvement is shown as embodied in a sewing machine having a cloth-plate 1, upon which is secured a throat-plate 2 by means of screws, as The throat-platefis-proe vided' with the usual=needle aperture4' and with parallel slots, as. 5 ,"throughwhich slots thefeed-dog 6, of the lower-'four-gmotion type is projected to intermittently advanc efthe' work, 7 Disposed directly below the plane'of the under side of the throat-plate'is] a loop-taker of the vertical-axis type, comprising. an outer body 7 separably secured upon an inner body their upper rims "with inwardly directed fi 'anges9 and 10 suitably spaced to form a' raceway for a'bearing-rib ll up'o'n the outer periphery of a. bobbin-carrier '12, which is therefore *j ouinaledfin the loop-taker; The outer body 7' of the loop-taker is provided with a beak 13 'for seizingthe needle thread 1 loop and with an oppositely directed heel or spur 1d upon which the needle-thread loop is discharged by the beak 1 3 and, bywhich said loop is held until just before the setting, of the Stitch. l

The loop-takerkbodies are provided at The bobbin-carrier 12 is open at-itstop and I is substantiallybottomless its base compris ing anarrow internal flange 15 for supporting a bobbin 16 disposed within the bobbinly' from the bobbin-carrier base is an aux-' iliary hook 17 V disposed-between the inner- 'looptaher' bod-yand the bobbin-carrier,- said -hook 17 acting to direct toward the bottomof the bobbin-carrier a limb of the needle-thread In the accompanying drawings, Fig, 1 is loops'eize d by'theloQp-t'aker, which limb is tin'uity; o The bobbin 1 6 is'latched against accidental carrier. Extending-outwardlyand upward-' upward movement out of its carrier during the s wing operation, the latching -mean.
The tongue 19 extends upwardlyfrom a base-member which at'opposite sides of the tongue is provided with apertured ears, as 21, for the reception of screws, as 22, whereby theretainer-member base is fastened upon the outer side-wall of the bobbin-carrier below its bearing-rib 11. Intermediate its -.-ends, the tongue 19 extends through a slot 7 adjacent the bearing-rib 11, while the upper 23 provided in the wall of the bobbin-carrier end of the tongue is disposed within a clearance recess 24 formed in the inner side 01" a flange 25 upon the bobbin-carrier above the bearing-rib 11. The flange 25 is preferably sufficiently. high toact as a guard'for the lip lip from snagging to thereby prevent said the needle thread loop,
The flange is disposed at the cast-01f side of the loop-taker and terminates at opposite ends in stop- shoulders 26 and 27. Adjacent to the shoulder 27, the upper edgeo-f the V- bobbin-carrier, as at 28, is disposed below 1 the upper bobbin-flange to provide for con venient access to the bobbin for-removal.
The shoulder 26 of the b bbin Ca-rrier is said bobbin-carrier against rotation with the j loop-taker. Movement of the bobbin-carrier adapted to engage a stop-lug 29 depending from-the throat-plate2, in order to restrain in the opposite direction is limited by a staengage the shoulder 27 oi? the-bobbin-carrier. The referred to stop-elements for the bobbin carrier are not herein described in detail, as lthey form the subj ect of a separate patent.

Station of the loop -taker,'by means of an .-o pener -finger 31 which is positioned to engage a shoulder 32 upon the bobbin-carrier...
. It may be mentioned that this reverse o-scilla-.
fanee'dle-thread loop-passage between the tion of-the bobbin-carrier is designed-to open .stop-shoulder 26 and the stop-lug-29, aswell as topullthread fromthe bobbin, but this -'subject-matter ,forms 'partof stilllanother patent application filed January 15,1929, ,;with Serial-No.332g6lO. x a

Thebobbin-thread is passed through a selfthreading slit 33, beneath atension-spring 342 secured upon the flange 25, and over the stop-shoulder 26 to the throat-plate needleaperture. o
Having thus setforth the nature of themvention, what I claim herein is I 1. In a sewing machineloop-taker, a bob- ,bin-carrier journaled insaid loop-taker having a bobbin cavity,"a-bobbin posltloned 1n said cavity, and means for confining the bobbin in the cavity of the bobbin-carrier comprising a retainer-member sustained by the bobbin-carrier and havinga yielding lip projecting from the bobbin-carrier wall inwardly across an outer edge of the bobbin to an extent slightly within-said outer edge.
