MAXIMILIAN O. MEYER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSZGNOR TO JOSEPH H. MEYER BROTHERS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION 03 NEVT YORK ARTICLE OF MANUFACTURE Application filed January 29, 1930. Serial No. 424,173.
This invention relates in general to jewelry articles, particularly to a tip to be employed on strung necklaces and to provide means for attaching the clasp thereto.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a tip of this nature which is exceedingly simple in structure and adapted to cheap and rapid manufacture.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a tip which may be attached to the string or wire portion of the necklace'by forming a knot therein and threading the string or wire through a hole in the tip so that the knot lies in the thimble or cup portion of the tip.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of an integral hook which may be attached to the clasp and closed to permanently secure the clasp thereto.
These and other objects as will appear from the following description are secured by means of this invention.
This invention resides substantially in the combination, construction, arrangement and relative location of parts, all as will appear more fully hereinafter.
Referring to the drawings- Figure 1 is aside elevational view of the tip of this invention;
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken in line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a vertical cross sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of a string of beads, for example with the tips of this invention attached at each end.
Some difiiculty is encountered in providing means by which the clasp of a necklace may be readily attached thereto in a permanent manner. The general purpose of this invenone side and free at the other, so that the tabhing the clasp parts to the necklace.
hook can be forced down to make a closed link. The bottom of the tip portion is provided with a small central hole 3. In use the necklace string l is provided with a knot 5 at each end which lies within the body portion 1 of the tip. The string a of course passes through the holes in the bottom of the body portion and the knot holds the tips firmly in place with the beads or other ornaments between them. The clasps, as is well known, are made in two parts. One part would be hooked on to the hook of one tip and the other part on to the hook of the other tin and both hooks closed, permanently at- In view of the foregoing disclosure it will be apparent that the device of this invention may be readily changed by those skilled in the art, without departing from the principle and scope of this invention, and I do not, therefore, desire to be strictly limited to the disclosure as given for purposes of illustration, but rather to the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
What I seek to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. In a necklace tip of the type described the combination comprising a thimble portion and a closable hook portion integrally united, said thimble portion having an aperture therethrough.
2. In a construction of the type described the combination comprising two tips having apertured hollow body portions and closable hooks thereon, and a string to receive ornaments extending through said apertures and knotted at the ends.
3. In the combination described a string to receive ornaments, tips therefor having apertured hollow body portions, and integral closable hook members on the body portion the ends of'said string passing through said apertures and being knotted, said knots lying within the hollow body portion.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand on this 27th day of January A. D.
MAXIMILIAN C. MEYER.
