CHARLES F. YORK, OF RICHMOND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO DEXTER SMITH, OF LITOHFIELD, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORSET-SPRINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,146, dated June 27, 1876; application fi ed January 31, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OHARLEs 1 YORK, of Richmond, State of Maine, have invented an Improvement in Corset-Clasps, called by me the Centennial Corset-Clasp, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invent-ion is to procure fastenings for corsets that shall be less liable to unclasp when in use, applied to busks, more durable, and such as will readily adjust themselves to any position of the body without discomfort to the person.
This I accomplish by the use of two broad steel busks inclosed as stays in the corsetsone, A, having the studs a I) c rising from the center line, drawn longitudinally, and the other, B, having corresponding apertures a b c to receive the studs, so that when clasped as in Fig. l the busk B will be directly over busk. A. The neck of the aperture I) holds the stud b firmly when clasped, while the apertures a and 0 each have a slot crosswise ot' the neck to give a play to the studs a and 0 when. clasped in bending the busks.
V The eyelets or bushings for the apertures a b 0 may have wide flexible flanges to pass through corresponding apertures in the cloth ot' the corset, and bend down over and confine the edge of the cloth around the aperture, with or without the use of the washers 1 1 1.
Reference is to be had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing represents the corset clasped. Fig. 2 represents the same unclasped.
I claim- As an improvement in corset fastenings composed of two blades or busks, one being made to cover the other-when connected, the headed studs a b c and corresponding eyelets a b o, constructed as described, so as to give play to the studs a c at the ends of the busks when connected, and having the flanges or washers 1 l l, for the purposes described.
\ CHARLES F. YORK.
