FIRE EXTINGUISHER Application filed December 21, 1928. Serial No. 327,540.
This invention relates generally to tire e):-
i and has more particular referto manual operable lire extinguisher.
The invention has for an obje the provision of a device of the class mentioned which is of simple durable construction, cesirable in use and efficient in action, and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
The invention proposes the use of a bottle containing a solution of sodium bicarbonate and having a neck engaged by a stopper in which a plunger is slidably mounted. This plunger is provided with a head, and the op posite end acts against a disc resting upon a container filled with citric acid. A soft metal cylinder is attached upon the stopper and has inturned edges coacting with out turned edges of the citric acid container for 20 normally holding the container in position. Depression of the plunger causes the soft metal to give and causes the container with the citric acid to drop. A discharge tube is connected vithin the bottle and extends to the outer side thereof thru which extinguishing solution may pass.
The present application showing forth r evelopment of the invention disclosed in my pending application, filed July 14, 1928, so Serial No. 292,778.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the followin description and accompan ing drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure l is a plan view of a device constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view, taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view of the same device constructed according to modified form.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional iew of a portion of this device.

The reference numeral indicates generally a bottle of any design or construction, preferably made of metal and having a neck i provided with threads 12.
A stopper 13 thr adedly en ages within the neck and has an enlarged head let for the manipulation thereof.
The stopper 13 is provided with a central aperture 15 in which a plunger 16 1s shdably mounted.
This plunger has an enlarged head 17 and a pin 18 near its bottom end. This pin engages 1n a slot 19 formed in the a 1 w L v. L 4 c stopper iOl preventing complete outward displacement of the plunger. A soft metal cylinder 20 is attached on the stopper and 1s 1 iormeo. metal.

within the bottle 10 extends from the bottom thereof out of the top. The extension 27 of this tube is preferablv zle 28 at its free end.
flexible and has a noz- A flange 29 is attached on the bottle and on the tube on the point where the tube extends out of the bottle. Another flange 30 is connected on the inner end of the tube and onto the bottle for holding this end of the tube against displacement. A plurality of apertures Ell are formed in the tube near the bottom thereof for providing a passage of the solution 26 thru the tube.
In the modified form of the device illustrated in l a bottle l0 has been shown with a neck 11 and a plug l3 threadedly engages in the neck for closing the neck. A tube 27 is arranged in conjunction with this bottle as previously described in reference to the bottle 10. This bottle is provided with a top bent tube 32 communicating with an auxiliary container 33 having a neck 11 in which a stopper 13 engages. This stopper is provided with a plunger 15 and with the citric acid container 22 as before described A connection 3% holds the lower portions of the bottle 10 and the auxiliary container 33 in spaced conditions. The bottle 10 is filled with water 35 and the auxiliary container 33 holds a solution of sodium bicarbonate 36.
In operation of the devices, the plunger 15 is manually depressed by striking the head 17. This causes the disc 25 to descend and straightens out the intur; ed edges :21 of the soft metal cylinder 20. The container 22 then falls and the citric acid within the container mixes with the solution of sodium bicarbonate for liberating gases and forcing the contents of the bottles from the discharglng e 27.
The auxiliary container 33 shown in Fig. 4 serves as a handle for holding the device besides performing its function of holding the solution of sodium bicarbonate.
Vhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modilications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim new, and e States Letters Patent is 1. In a fire extinguisher, a bottle for holding a solution of bicarbonate of soda, a stopper in the bottle, a container for holding citric acid suspended fr in the stopper, by reason of having out turned top edges engaging upon inturned bottom edges of a soft metal cylinder attached on the stopper, and a plunger mounted in the stopper, and arranged for detaching the container from the stopper upon downward motion thereof, a tube extending from the interior to the exterior of the bottle and arranged for discharging the contents of the same.
2. In a fire extinguisher, a bottle for hold in" a solution of bicarbonate of soda, a stopper in the bottle, a container for holding citric acid suspended from the stopper, a soft metal member attached on the stopper and having inturned edges engaging out turned edges projecting from the container and constituting the means for suspending the 0011- tainer from the stopper, and a plunger mounted in the stopper, and arranged for detaching the container from the stopper upon downward motion thereof, a tube eX- tending from the interior to the exterior of the bottle and arranged for discharging the contents of the same.
3. In a iire extinguisher, a bottle tor hold-- ing a solution of bicarbonate of soda, a stopper in the bottle, a container for holding citric acid suspended from the stopper, a soft metal lnember attached on the stopper and having inturned edges engaging outturned edges projecting from the container and constituting the means for suspending slit to secure by United signature.
