Description
Jam-20, 1931. J, McLElSH 1,789,317
TRIPOD OR THE LIKE I Original Filed Sept. 21, 1929 INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY Jams G. I?
Patented Jan. 20, 1 931 UNITED STATES.
PATENT *rlce JAMES GEORGE McLEIsH, F IRvnvE, ALBERTA, eAnAnA TRIPOD on THE LIKE Application filed September 21, 1929, Serial No. 394,348, and in Canada January 12, 192 9. Renewed November 21,1930.
This invention relates to tripods or the like and my invention has for itseprincipal object the provision of a structure which is of such a nature that it can be manufactured at a most reasonable cost'and: yet provides a 7 structure which is most efiicient when in use.
A further object is to provide a tripod or the like which embodies a structure wherein the legs may be detachably connected to a Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail View of a modi fied form.
Fig. 3 is a perspective detail view of the connecting member.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the different views. I
4 is a head plate-preferably having three longsides 5, 6 and 7, which sides have their edges rolled to cover around the reinforcing bar 8. Intermediateth'e ends of the rolled . sides 5, 6 and 7, I provide cutout portions so as to permit the straps 9 to engage around the reinforcing bar 8 at its respective points.
The straps 9 are securely attached to the up per ends of the legs 10 by means of screws or bolts 11. The head plate tis provided with a central opening through which an engageplate 4 and to which a block and tackle or any other lifting mechanism may be attached.
Referring'to Figs. 2 and 3, showingthe modified form of the connecting memberl 45, which is substituted for thestraps 9, the body portion of the connecting member is securely i attached to the upperends df'the le gs 1O similar to the strap 9. The inner portion of the connecting member 14 is cut longitudinally to form a tongue which is-bent upwardly as at Fig, 1 is a perspective view of the preferred 15 to provide an engagement member having a curved upper end; The intermediate portion '16 ofthe connecting member 14 is grooved transversely to .provide a seat in I which the reinforcing bar 8 will normally be seated. By swinging the free ends of thelegs 1O aroundand lowering the leg simultaneously the hooked end of the tongues 15 may be removed from their 7 lapped engagement 7 aroundthe reinforcing bar 8 and the respective legs removed. I
The foregoing specification and annexed of my invention but it is to be understood that minor changes may be resorted toin the comd'rawingsdisclose the preferred embodiment me'rcial adaptation of my invention without departing from the scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
' What I claim as new is:
1. Atripod structure comprising in combination ahead member; a reinforcing bar legs hingedly connected tosaid reinforcing bar; a block andftackle' supporting member supported downwardly from said headmemher; major portions of the edges of said head I said head member being lapped around-said reinforcing bar; strap members hingedly lapped around said reinforcing bar interme- 4.0 ment member 12 may be-supported from the bar while said legs are being swung to disengaged position and the intermediate portion of said strap member being'formed to'provide a sunken seat for said reinforcing bar. In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
JAMES GEORGE MQLEISIH."
