SWINGING BED.
Application led July 10, 1924. Serial No. 725,166.
To all whom t may concern:
Be itknown that I, LOUIS 0. OxuNDoRr,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county ot Milwauldee and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swinging Beds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to swinging bed structures especially adapted to be used upon ships, and it consists in the novel :teatures hereinafter described and claimed.
-an object of the invention is to provide a. bed structure oi the character stated, which is preferably made ot' metal and including i'our posts, with means for securing the ends of the posts to the upper and lower deck surfaces or floor of one deck and ceiling of the next deck. U-shaped brackets are interposed between the posts and are located at the end of the bed structure and bars are supported at the intermediate portions ot the said brackets and couches are connected by means of links with the said bars, whereby the said couches may swing and remain in horizontal position as the said posts rock with the decks.
I-Iook members are provided for fixing the couches with relation to the posts when desired.
In the accompanying' drawing:
Figure l is a side elevational view of the swinging bed structure, with one of the posts broken away, and parts of the structure shown in section.
Figure 2 is an end elevational view of the swinging bed structure.
The swinging bed structure comprises posts l, having plates 2 applied to the ends thereof, and the said posts are erected between the decks indicated at 3 and 4. Inverted U-shaped brackets 5 are interposed between the posts l, at the ends of the bed structure, and are secured to the said post by means of bolts 6, which pass transversely through the end portions of the said brackets and t he said post. Bars 7 are supported upon the intermediate portions of the brackets 5 and are held by means of cot-ter means 8, which pass transversely through the said bars and the intermediate portions of t he bracket. Chain links 9 depend from the end portions ot the bar 7, and support couch structures l0, whereby said structures may zontal as the swing and rem ain horiposts rock with the decks 3 and 4l. The couches l are provided at their lower side por hooks l2 may tions with eyes ll, into which be engaged. The said hooks are pivotally supported upon the post l. ldhen the hooks 12 are engaged in tie eyes ll, the couches l0 are practically lined with relation to the post l, and are held against relative swing ing movement.
bed couches in ship 1s rocked.
horizontal position, while the I-Iaving described the invention, what is claimed is i1 swinging bed structure comprising posts, bolts, plates applied to the ends of the posts, inverted U-shaped brackets applied to the posts at bars mounted tions of the b longitudinally for lixing the links hanging tions of the b the ends ot the bed struct-ure, upon the intermediate porracket members and disposed of the bed structure, means bars to the bracket members, pendant Jfrom the end porar, couches supported by the links and located between the posts, and hooks mounted upon the posts and engageable with the stationary wit In testimon ture.
