A itorney Patented Jan. 13, 1931 UNITED STATES HJALMAR G. JERNIBERG, OF CHICAGOQILLINOIS WASTE msxaa Application filed February 11, 1930'. Seria1- No.'427 ,569.
This invention relates to a waste basket and has for its prime object the provision of a structure which may be incorporated in a desk in a convenient manner for use.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a waste basket structure of this nature which is simple, easy to attach in place, strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture, thorlo oughly eflicient and reliable in use.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in 15 the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a vertical section through a no desk showing my improved waste basket in place,
Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof,
Figure 3 is a vertical section through the waste basket structure,
25 Figure 4 is a top plan view thereof,
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 55 of Figure 3,
Figure 6 is a detail sectional view of the inlet end of the waste basket showing a mod 30 ification with a door,
Figure 7 is a top plan view of another embodiment of the invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a desk of conventional construction. My improved waste basket comprises a vertical hollow receptacle 6 having an opening at the bottom of the front wall as is shown at 7 through which is slidable a drawer 8. This receptacle 6 merges into a laterally extending outwardly tapering portion 9 terminating in a horizontal neck 10.
A plurality of apertured cars 11 are provided on one side of this waste basket so that it may be anchored to the inner side of the desk 5 as is clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2 by suitable fastening means. It will be seen that the inlet neck 10 terminates at the front end of the desk as to be conveniently located for inserting waste paper and the like'therelinand the incline of the ex tension 7 will allow this waste paper and theilikefto slide down into the receptacle 6 to be deposited'into the drawer 8which may be" emptied when necessary or desirable.
In Figure 6 it will beseen that I have shown a slightly modified form of the neck denoted" by the r'lur'neral 10 and at the entrance" of said neck is a" hingedly mounted door 12 with which is preferably associated suitable'locking'means 14. a
In Figure 7 I have shown another embodiment of the invention wherein the extension 9 tapers in its width outwardly so that the neck lOa'f is" slightly spaced from the inner side of the desk and therefore arms 15" areextended laterally therefromtermi'nating in ears 11 which may be an chored to the inner side of the desk; g
It isthou'ght that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now befquite apparent to those gskilledin' this art without a more'detailed description thereof.
The present" embtdimeat "ofith'e' invention has beendisclosed" in considerable detailmerely for the purposes'o'f ekemplification since in actual practice it attains the featu'resof advantage enumerated a's'desirable in the statement of the invention and the abovede'scription'.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts maybe re sorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. In combination with, a desk, a waste basket anchored to the inner side of the desk including a vertically disposed receptacle having a forwardly and upwardly inclined extension terminating in a horizontal neck adjacent the front of the desk.
2. In combination with a desk, a waste basket anchored to the inner side of the desk including a vertically disposed receptacle having a forwardly and upwardly inclined extension terminating in a horizontal neck adjacent the front of the desk, the
bottom of the front wall of the receptacle being formed with an opening, and a drawer slidable in said opening.
3. In combination with a desk, a waste 5 basket anchored to the inner side of the desk including a vertically disposed receptacle having a forwardly and upwardly inclined extension terminating in a horizontal neck adjacent the front of the desk, the bottom of the front wall of the receptacle being formed with an opening, and a drawer slidable in said opening, a door hingedly mounted in the end of the neck.
4. A waste basket structure of the class described comprising a vertically disposed receptacle merging at its upper end to a hollow forwardly and upwardly inclined extension terminating in a horizontal inlet neck, and ears on the receptacle at one side for anchoring the same to the inner side of a desk. 7 r
5. A waste basket structure of the class described comprising a vertically disposed receptacle merging at its upper end to a hollow forwardly and upwardly inclined extension terminating in a horizontal inlet neck, and ears on the receptacle at one side for anchoring the same to the inner side of a desk, the front wall of the receptacle being provided with an opening and with a drawer slidable in the opening.
6. A waste basket structure of the class described comprising a vertically disposed receptacle merging at its upper end to a hollow forwardly and upwardly inclined extension terminating in a horizontal inlet neck, and ears on the receptacle at one side 7 for ancho ing the same to the inner side of a desk, the front wall of the receptacle being 0 provided. with an opening and with a drawer slidable in the opening, said extension tapering forwardly. j
In testimony whereof I allix my signature.
HJALMAR O. JERNBERG.
