A. LANG.
CHANDELIER.
Patented June 13, 1876.

WIATN ESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. y
ANTON LANG, OE NEw YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHANDELIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,783, dated J une 13, 1876; application tiled June 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:` Beit known that I, ANTON LANG, of New i York, in the county of New York and State of cation, and tothe letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The ligure of the drawing is a representation of a central vertical section of my ehan. delier. y
This inventionV has relation to a chandelier for illuminating purposes; and the nature of my invention consists in *a chandelier, hereinafter explained, which is so constructed that it is adapted for burning common illuminatinggas, for enriching such gas On its way to the burner, and also fOr-burning kerosene alone.
In the annexed drawings, A designates a gas-pipe, which is provided with aregulatingcock, B, and which extends down into a reservoir, D, and is perforated at e e for the escape of gas into said reservoir. At c is a fillingorlice, which is closed tightly by a cap, and through which kerosene is poured into the reservoir D, when it is desired to use this iiuid either for enriching the gas or for illuminating without gas. G G are branch pipes leading from the reservoir D, and provided with regulating-cocks D1 D2. The pipe G has a vertical portion, F, fixed to its outer end, which terminates in a gas-burner, h. The pipe G has a vertical wick-holder, E, fixed .to its outer end, which terminates in a finely-perforated bowl, g, which allows ascending currents of air to impinge on the llame in such manner that a chimney is unnecessary. AC designates a sleeve inelosing the lower portion of the gastu-be A, and having ornaments a b formed on its ends.. This sleeve G is vertically movable, and when it'is raised the top of the reservoir D is exposed, and kerosene can he fed into this reservoir through the tillin gorice. l/Vhen sleeve C is lowered its enlargement b covers the filling-orifice o.
It will be seen from the above .description that, when cock Dl is shut,'gas alone may be used for illumination by opening cock D2, or, if desired, the reservoir D may beiiilled with kerosene and the gas enriched-thereby on its way to the burner h. If the cock D1`is opened kerosene alone may be used for illumination.
It is obvious that the reservoir D may be provided with many branches, each one bearing a gas-burner or a kerosene-burner, or these two kinds of burners may alternate and be used separately or together.
What Ilclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a chandelier, the gas and kerosene burners g h, combined with a reservoir, D, and a gas-pipe, A, which is perforated at e, substantially as described.
In testimony that I ela-im the above I have,V
hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
