IMPROVEMENT IN BABY-TENDERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,680, dated J unc 13, 1876; application filed -November 6, 1875.

To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, THOMAS SHAW, of Morris, in the couuty'of Grundy and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Baby-Tenders, of which the following is a specification:

The object of this invention is to hold a baby and allow him to swing, jump, and walk without danger of falling, and which shall be simple in construction and convenient and safein use.

The invention consists in the combination of the upright bar,'with its lugs, the spring, with its forked strap and lug, the brace, with its fingers or points, the adjustable forked strap, and the round or cross-bar, with each other, to adapt the device-to receive a childs seat or jacket.

A is an upright bar, which is designed to be attached to a door or windoW-casin g, or to the wall of a room. To the bar A, at or near its upper end, is secured a perforated lug, B, to receive the perforated forked end of a strap or casing, O, which is pivoted to said lug B by a pin. The strap 0 is attached to the end of a spring, D, which is tapered from the middle toward each end, so as toact as adouble spring. To the under side of the middle part of the spring D is attached a perforated lug, E, to receive the finger or point F, formed upon or attached to the upper end of the bracebar G, which has a similar finger or point, H, formed upon or attached to its lower end, to enter the perforation of a lug, I, attached to the lower part of the bar A. To the outer end of the spring D is secured the upper end of a strap, J, which is made in two parts, connected by a buckle, K, so that its length may be conveniently adjusted, as circumstances may require. The lower part of the strap J is forked, and to the ends of its branches is attached a round or cross-bar, L, to the ends of which are attached the ends of a pair of forked straps, M. The ends of the branches .of the straps M are attached to a chair or seat, N, to the forward parts of the arms of which is attached a table, 0, to receive the childs playthings, and also to keep him in his chair N and straps M are'detached from the round L, and the loops P. of the jacket are passed over the ends of said round L. The

ends of the loops P are secured to a band, Q, which is'buttoned or buckled around the childs waist. To the rear part of the band Q is attached the end of a strap, R, which is passed between the childs legs, and its other end is buttoned or buckled to the forward part of the said band Q, so that the child can walk about through the swing of the spring D without the possibility of falling and hurting himself.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of. the upright bar A, with its lugs B I, the spring D, with its forked strap 0 and lug E,'the brace G, with its points or fingers 1 H, the adjustable forked strap J, and the round L,'with each other, to adapt the device to receive a childs seat or jacket, substantially as herein shown and described.
