OBSTETRICAL SUPPORTER- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 12, 1907.
Application filed July 24,1906. erial No. 327,562.
To all whom [it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANCIS MARION CRUME, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stiles, in the county of Reagan and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Obstetrical Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to obstetrical supporters or harness; and its object is to provide a simple and durable apparatus of this character which can be readily adjusted to proper position and which has rocking footrests constituting comfortable seats for the feet of the patient.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of stirrups having footpieces mounted to swing thereon, and straps connect each stirrup with a grip. Additional straps extend from the grips for engagement with the knees, and the two kneestraps are connected by a cross-strap.
The invention also consists of certain other novel features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing is shown the preferred form ,of the invention.
In said drawing the device is shown in per-' spective and applied.
Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is a stirrup the cross-bar 2 of which constitutes a fulcrum for a foot-rest 3, preferably in the form of a half-sole. A side strap 4 is buckled or otherwise fastened to the stirrup and likewise to a coupling-loop 5., having one of its portions provided with a grip 6. A knee-strap 7 is attached to the loop 5 and is folded upon itself, the end 8 thereof being adjustably connected, as by a buckle 9, with the strap 7 near its point of attachment to the loop 5 3 It is of course urnderstood that two pairs of stirrups, straps, and loops such as above described are employed, and the knee-straps of the two pairs are connected by cross-straps 10, said straps being preferably adjustably connected, as by buckles 11.
It is thought that the use of the device will be thoroughly understood from the foregoing description. The straps 4 and 7 are adjusted to the paitent and are placed with straps 7 over the knees and the rests 3 under the feet. These rests will rock while the grips 6 are pulled upon, and no discomfort will therefore be experienced as a result of the movement of the feet within the stirrups. The entire device is very compact, simple, and durable and can be easily placed in position for use.
What is claimed is 1. A device of the character described comprising stirrups, a foot-rest extending through and fulcrumed upon each stirrup, combined loops and grips, straps connecting the stirrups and loops, looped knee-straps connected to the loops, and a cross-strap connecting the loops of the knee-straps.
2. A device of the character described comprising oppositely-disposed looped kneestraps, an adjustable strap connecting the intermediate portions of the knee-straps, triangular grips secured to the ends of the kneestraps, stirrups adjustably connected to said grips, and foot-rests secured to and adapted to rock within the stirrups.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my ownI have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANCIS MARION CRUME.
