IMPROVEMENT IN UMBRELLA-SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,967, dated January 11, 1876; application filed December 11, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mrs. ELIZA M. ARNOLD, of Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Parasol and Umbrella Supporter, of which the following is a specification:
The figure is a perspective view of my improved device, illustrating its use.
The object of this invention is to furnish a. simple and convenient device for supporting and carrying a parasol or umbrella in such a way as to leave the hands free, and which will enable the parasol or umbrella to he tilted or inclined forward or back, or to either side, as may be required.
The invention consists in the curved rods, having a socket formed upon or attached to I their upper end, the open ring, and the straps,
in combination with a belt to adapt it, when attached to a body,to support a parasol or umbrella, and in the combination of the straps and buttonsjwith the frame of the parasol or umbrella, and with the belt and supportin device, as hereinafter fully described.
A are two rods, curved to fit upon the forward side of and pass over the shoulders of the wearer. The lower ends of the rods A are attached or hinged, as shown at a, to an open metallic ring, B, of such a length as to pass around, or nearly around, the waist of the wearer, and which is designed to be secured to a belt, E, to be buckled or clasped around .the waist.
The upper parts of the rods A curve toward each other, have a coil formed in them to give them elasticity, are bent upward, and are connected with or are coiled to form a socket to receive the handle of the parasol or umbrella. To the rodsA are attached straps G, to be passed around the arms or across the breast of the wearer, to keep the said rods in place. D are elastic straps, which are attached to the frame of the parasol or umbrella, and the free ends of which are provided with loops or rings to catch upon buttons a attached to the belt E, so that by adjusting the straps D the parasol or umbrella may be tilted or inclined forward or backward, or to either side, as circumstances may require. I
The device may beworn with the rods A passing down in front of the shoulders, or in the rear of the shoulders, or one in front and the other in the rear of either shoulder, as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim'as new and desire to secure by Letters MRS. ELIZA MELVINA ARNOLD.
