rlhis invention relates to advertising devices and has for an object the provision of a simple, inexpensive and easily applied advertising device for association with garment hangers and the like.

Another object is to provide a device of this kind which may be readily adapted for application to the commonly used wire garment hangers either at the factory or by a user.

Another object is to provide an advertising device for association with garment hangers and which does not'impair the usefulness of the hanger, and at the same time serves to display the advertising matter thereon regardless of the nature of the garment suspended from the hanger.

Another object is to provide a device of this kind which, while not readily separable from the hanger, may be replaced with similar devices at a minimum of expense and effort.

rThese and other obj ects are attained by the means described herein and disclosed in the accompanying drawings, in which:

The commonly used garment hanger illustrated in Fig. 1 may comprise the usual single length of wire having its one end developed into a hook 8 and the balance of the wireI developed into a substantially triangular member comprising arms 9 and 10 and a transverse bar 11 for use as a trouser hanger. The end of the arm 10 is twisted about the wire adjacent the hook in the well known manner.

The advertising device comprises a sheet of foldable stiff material 11 such as heavy paper, cardboard or the like and, as illus trat-ed in Fig. 5 takes substantially the form of a trapezium having parallel edges 12 and 13 and tapered or inclined edges 14. The sheet 11 is scored or creased diagonally from adjacent the corners 15 along lines 16 which extend to the opposite parallel edge 13. These scored lines 16 may terminate at a distance from one another on the edge 13 as shown in Fig. 4, or they may meet substan*- tially on the edge 13 as shown` in Fig. 3. By folding the sheet 11 along the lines 16 there will be provided a substantially triangular face comprising an advertising panel 17 and a pair of flaps 18 comprising auxiliary advertising panels. When folded as shown, the flaps 18 may be passed `over the arms 9 and 10 on one side thereof while the panel 17 is disposed on the other side of said arms. The major portion of the panel 17 is then in a position where it will be exposed to view regardless of the nature of the garment suspended from the hanger. In order to retain the device in position upon the hanger any one or more of several known expedients may be utilized. As shown in Fig. 1 a wire stitch 19 extends through the panel 17 and flap 18 holding the inner faces of the panel and flap against one another and precluding separation of the device fromthe arm. As shown in Fig. 3 an arcuate slot 20 is cut through the panel 17 so that the corners 21 of the iiaps 18 may be entered into the slots 2O thereby providing a simple lock for retaining the ends of the iaps upon the panel 17. As shown in Figs. 4 and 5 a pair of elongated slots 22 disposed substantially parallel with the line 16 and adjacent the edge 12 of panel 17 are provided for receiving the inserted corners 21 of the flaps 18. If desired the flaps 18 may be notched as at 23 to insure a more secure locking of the parts one upon the other. `From the foregoing it will be apparent that the advertising device of the invention is simple and inexpensive of manufacture and very effective in use since it comes to the notice of the patron each time it is used in hanging or removing a garment.

It Will be readily understood that the herein disclosed embodiment representing a Very simple and practical device may be modified, within the scope and spirit of this invention both as to form and fastening means. The trapezium shape may be altered within limits to provide greater or lesser panels 18, and it will be readily understood that a rectangular sheet may be folded about a hanger in the same manner, parts being cut away to accommodate the throat portion 24 of the hanger.

It will be understood that the advertising matter 25 may be disposed upon the face of the panel 17 so as to be readable when the device is applied to a garment hange' and that the advertising matter 26 on panels 18 is carried by the same face of the sheet but in a substantially inverted position to that carried by the panel 17 so that when these panels are folded rearwardly and downwardly about the hanger the advertising will be readable.

The device, in addition to being purely an advertising` medium, serves to protect garments suspended thereon from dirt or rust from metal of the hanger. rllhe device, especially of the type as shown in Figs. 3 and l may be very readily7 applied to hangers by the dry cleaner, tailor, repairman or the like at a very small expense. rlhey may also be eyeleted, wire stitched, or self interlock/ed by any of the commonly used hand tools or machines for those purposes.

lVhat is claimed is:

1. The combination of a garment hanger having downwardly and outwardly divergent arms, a quadrilateral sheet of material turned upon itself whereby to provide a substantially triangular advertising panel and a pair of flaps comprising auxiliary advertising panels, said flaps being folda le over the arms of the hanger and means to secure the iiaps to the triangular panel whereby to retain the sheet in position upon the hanger.

2. As a new article of manufacture an advertising device for attachment to garment hangers including arms and consisting of a quadrilateral sheet of material adapted to carry advertising matter on one face thereof, said sheet of material having its op posite upper corners foldable backwardly and do\ Ynwardly and means for securing the fold` ed corners to the body of the sheet and independently embracing said arms.

3. As a new article of manufacture an advertising device for garment hangers comprising a sheet of material in the nature of cardboard having two corners folded rearwardly and downwardly wliereby'to provide a pair of substantially triangular panels facing in one direction and relatively larger substantially triangular panel facing in the opposite direction, and means for securing the pair of panels to said last mentioned panel messie and permitting mounting of the device about the arms of a garment hanger.

An advertising device for mounting about and locking the arms of garment hangers of the type having divergent arms, comprising a sheet of material of the nature of cardboard carrying advertising matter on one face, said sheet having a pair of adjacent cor ers folded rearwardly and downwardly over the arms of the hanger and means to secure the said folded portions in said folded position.

5. ln an advertising device for attachment to wire garment hangers comprising arms the combination of a sheet of foldable material having substantially the form of a trapezinin, said sheet being folded rearwardy and down. 7ardly upon itself over the arms and along lines extending from adjacent the corners of the longer parallel side to points adjacent Ahe center of the shorter parallel side and means to secure the folded portions in the last named position.

7.
