IMPROVEMENT lN BLACKBOARD-RUBBERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,594, dated June 13, 1876; application tiled October 9, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY H. BURRING- TON, of the city and county of Providence,
State of Rhode Island have invented a new and useful Blackboard-Eraser, which invention is described in the following specification, and shown in the drawings.
Figure l is an elevation of the eraser, the righthand half being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a plan or top view.
In these drawings, B is an oblong rectangular base-block, having its four corners rounded off so as not to have any square or right-angle corners to dent or injure the board or plastering on which the blackboard is made. I cover the under side and edges of this block with plush carpet E, or some brush material, and place between the carpet and block one or more thicknesses of wadding to form a cushion, and turn the edges of the carpet over on the top of the block, and fasten them with nails. The handle A is made in the form shown, with its ends 0 O beveled off, and its edges grooved so as to be held readily with the hand, and is fastened to the top of the base-block B by the screws F F, which hold it firmly. The ends 0 O of the handle are rounded, and it is desirable to make the handle a little shorter than the block B.
What I claim as nay-invention and improvement in blackboarderasers is 1. The base or block 13, having the rubbing corners and ends rounded, so there shall be no square or right-angle corners to dent or injure the board or plastering on which it is made.
2. In combination with the base or block, provided with rounded rubbing ends and corners, the handle having rounded ends, substantially as described.
