IMPROVEMENT IN FEED-COKRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,586, dated June 13, 1876; application filed May 22, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MORGAN H. BEACH, of New Sharon, in the county of Mahaska and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in FeedGookers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilledv in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference m arked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a feed-cooker or agricultural boiler, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, Figure l is a central vertical section. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line Fig. l; and Figs-3 and 4 are detail views of my invention.
A represents a barrel, hogshead, or other suitable receptacle, hung upon trunnions in a stand or frame, L, so as to be easily emptied when the food has been cooked. In the center of this barrel, on the bottom, is secured a raised plate, B, having an oval slot, b, as
shown. O represents the furnace, made in the usual cylindrical form, and provided on its bottom with an oval button,a, which is to be passed into the slot of the raised plate B in the bottom of the barrel A,and the furnace then turned one-fourth around, when it becomes locked to the barrel. The furnace can beeasily unlocked and lifted out of the barrel when the cooking is done. In the top of the furnace is the door D for the admission of fuel.
E is the smoke-pipe. G is the air-flue, extendingfrom the top downward `within the furnace tonear the bottom, where it connects with an inclined or funnel-shaped rim, J, secured to the sides and bottom of the furnace. This rim is perforated, as shown, and the air, passing down through the tlue G,enters the space between said rim and the angle formed by the sides and bottom of the furnace, so that the air becomes distributed all around, and draft given all around, the furnace.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The perforated funnel-shaped rim J, in combination with the furnace O and air-flue G, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the furnace O, with oval button a projecting from its bottom, and the barrel or `receptacle A, with slotted raised plate B in the bottom, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The combination ofthe stand L, the barrel or receptacle A, hung on trunnions therein, the furnace C, and locking device B a, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as MORGAN H. BEACH.
Witnesses LUTHER HOFEMIRE, A. E. KIBBE.
