SWITCH BOX PLATE COVER Filed Oct. 25, 1927 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Dec. 9, 1930 A FRANCIS GEORGE DARLINGTON, OFsAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA SWITCILROX PLATE lCovItRY Application mea October 25, 1927.` serial 110.228.652.
This invention relatesto a switch box cover or plate, and its obj ect is to furnish, at small cost and trouble an ornamental cover for a switch box plate which, by the fact that it can be manufactured in any number of colors, shades, shapes and designs and can be put in place with a minimum of laborV and knowledge, will meet the needs and requirements of the greatestvnumber of people.
An object of the design is to enable anyone to easily and, quickly instal'lY the cover and also to remove one or more of the super` imposed sheets of fabricated material, in order to have or to install a new, clean or different sheet. Other objects of the invention will be apparent as thek description proceeds.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which the same reference numeral is applied to the same portion throughout the several figures of the drawing and of which there may be modifications.
Figure l is a plan of the plate before pad ofsheets is attached.
Figure 2 is a cross-section along the center line of the plate longwa-ys, with pad attached.'v Figure 3 is a cross-section of the plate across the plate at center with pad attached.
Y Figure 4f is a plan of the plate with one type of pad attached. y
Figure 5 is a side elevation of plate with pad attached. y
Figure 6 is an end elevation of plate with pad attached.
Figure 7 shows the clips :#:t snapped onto screwhead in attaching plate to switch box.
Figure 8 is a plan of a switch box plate V.with cover attached.
Figure 9 is a cross-section along the centerline longways showing cover attached to switch box plate.
Figure 10 is a cross-section along the centerline crossways showing cover attached to switch box plate.
Figure 1l is a plan of cover showing under side with area treated with adhesive material.
Figure l2 is a plan of a cover of a different` shape than the plate but following the general outline of the plate.
Thiscover is of the typewhich can be attached to the switch box plate by'moistening the adhesive material on the back side of the cover and pres-sing upon the`plate and which itself and any of the superimposedl sheets can be removed as desired. i
Sheet #5 is a basic sheet of fabricated material, perforated to expose and operate the switch box mechanism, shaped to fit the general outline of the switch box plate, having an area ofthe backtreated with adhesive material to allow of being attached to switch box plate, and on top of which a pad of -sheets of fabricated material can beattached. i'
' Pad :#:1 is a number of sheets of fabricated material perforated to expose and operate switch control mechanism, and fastened together on the edges with an' adhesive material, a smallsection being left yclean to allow of grasping in-order to loosen each sheet when 70 desired, the whole to be attached to the basic cover sheet #5 by above'mentioned adhesive material. Y n
Plate #2 is made of metal pressed into shape to obtain projecting edges in order to obtain a tight fit against wall or block carrying'switch box, perforated by hole :t/:S and cut and shaped to form slips #4.
j Hole or holes #3 is cut in cover sheet 5 and pad 1 to fit over standard push button, straight toggle service connection, or vother type of switch box cover or plate, in order to expose and operate the switch box mechanism. Y f
Clips #tare two Vpairs of shaped metalv pieces cutandbent into position to engage screwheads in attaching to switch box.:
. The edges of pad, falso edges of hole are glued together with the exception of one corner or a special clip,V sectionwhich is left free to allow of getting hold of sheetl to tear sheet loose when desired.Y x
The shape ofthe plate :tt-'2 is not absolutely set as it can be varied to suit desire, but the hole :#:3 and c lipsV :lr/:4 areA determined by the type of switch box it is desired lto cover. The clips #t are used 'to avoid the unsightly attaching screws and'secure ease of setting up and adjusting of portion of plate'assembly,
allowing of setting hole #3 over switch ople@ erating mechanism and pressing clips #4c over screwheads, also slight vertical movement to prevent binding on switch operating mechanism. Area .#6 is a section of the back of cover sheet 5 immediately adjacent to hole or holes 3, on which an adhesive material is placed to allow of attaching cover sheet 5V to the switch plate by moistening and pressing against plate, at the same time fitting hole or holes 3 to the proper position.
Having thus described myy invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows, but modification may be made in carrying ont the invention as shown in the drawings'andv in the above particularly described form thereof, within the preview of the annexed claims:
l. A switch boxplate cover of the class described, a cover sheet consisting of one sheet of fabricated material shaped toy fit the general outline of the switch box plate and having an area on the back treated with; adhesive material, a pad of sheetsof fabricated material fastened together and to cover sheet, both cover sheet and pad being perforated to expose and operate the switch box` mechanism.
2. A switch box plate cover of the class described, consisting of a pad of sheets of fabricated material, each sheet ofV whichv is perforated to allow of exposure andv operationl of the switch box mechanism, said sheets being removable one or more at a time and being' attached to a cover sheet perforated by a hole or holes of a size and shape to allow of exposure and operation of switch box mechanism, and said sheet to be shaped to the general outline of the switch box plate and to have an area on the back treated with an adhesive material to allow of being at tached to the switch box plate.
8. A switch box plate cover ofthe class described, consisting of a cover. sheet of fabricated material perforated by a hole of a size and shape to allow of exposure and operation of the switch box mechanism said sheet to be shaped to the generalV outline of the switch box plate and to be treated on the back with an adhesive material to allow of being attached to switch box plate.
4. A switch box plate cover ofthe class described, consisting of a padAof sheets of fabricated material so attached to each other as to allow of being separated one or more at a time, said pad to be perforated. by a hole or holes of a size or shape to allow of operating the switch mechanism, and having an area on the back of the' bottom sheet of the pad treatedV with adhesive material to allow of being attached to the switch box plate.
