FRAMED DESIGN FOR HANDBAGS, LUGGGE AND THE LIKE Filed Noir. 27
.F.zg.
INVENTOR JOHN G. VOGEL AZWMEX Patented Oct. 11, 1949 UNITED STATE-s PATENT OFFICE FRAMED DESIGN FOR HANDBAGS, LUGGAGE, AND THE LIKE John G. Vogel, New York, N. Y. Application November 27, 1944, Serial No. 565,307
This invention relates to new and' useful iniprovements in a framed design arrangement for handbags, luggage and the like.
More particularly, the invention proposes an improved framed design arrangement characterized by a backing sheet with a framing strip mounted thereon forming a frame for an illustration or monogram, and a plate for said illustration or monogram mounted behind said framing strip and held in position by the framing strip.
The invention contemplates using the new framed design arrangement directly on the side of handbags, other types of bags, luggage and the like, or using the same on a ap which is attached to the handbag or other type of bag,
luggage and the like.
Still further the invention proposes the construction of a framed design arrangement as described, Which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost. N
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, yand to the ap.- pended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly setv forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. l is a side elevational view of a handbag provided with a framed design arrangement constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the gap and framed design arrangement shown in Fig. 1, this view being taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side elevationa1 view of a handbag provided with a framed designA arrangement constructed in accordance with still another form of this invention.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the plate with the illustration shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary detailed view of the framing strip used in Figs. 3 and 4.
Fig. 7 is a side elevational view of a purse provided with a framed design arrangement constructed in accordance with another form of this invention.
Fig. 8 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken on the line 8-8 of Fig. 7.
Fig. 9 is a similar View to Fig. 8, but showing a modified form of the invention.
The framed design arrangement, in accordance 3 claims. (c1. 40-15'2) with that form of the invention disclosed in 66 Figs. 1 and 2, includes a backing sheet I U such aS a iiap which is attached at its top edge to the frame II of a handbag I2 or other object. A framing strip I4 is mounted on the backing sheet IIJ, preferably with a line of stitches I5 along its edges. This framing strip I4 forms a circular frame for an illustration or monogram plate, such as the plate I6 and also forms a frame for a transparent sheet I6' which covers the plate I6. This plate I6 has the illustration or monogram printed or painted or in any other mannery formed on its front face.
The circular framing strip I4 comprises a stripx of bendable material which has its inner edge por-- tion I1 bent inwards. This inner edge portion II.'y is pasted down to the inner face of the stripi I4. The plate I6 may be securely mounted with-- in the framing strip by adhesive between the contacting faces of the plate I6 and the inwardlyl bent edge portion II.
In Figs. 3-6 a modified form of the invention is disclosed which distinguishes from the prior form in the fact that a sectional framing strip 20 is attached upon a backing strip 2l, which' sectional auxiliary framing strip 25 is used be neath the framing strip 20. This auxiliary strip 25 preferably is a celluloid strip. At spaced points the auxiliary strip 25 is provided with downwardly stamped tongues 26 stamped from the 'l material thereof. These tongues 26 of the strip 25 normally engage corresponding openings 21 formed along the edge of the plate 28 which is provided with an illustration, monogram or the like 29. A line of stitches 30 extends along the edge portions of the framing strip 20 and the auxiliary framing strip 25 and extends through the material of the backing sheet 2I by which the frame strips are mounted in position.
An important feature of this form of the in vention resides in the fact that the plate 28 is removably held in position by the flexible tongues: 26. When desired the inner edge portion of ther framing strip 20 and the auxiliary framing strip 25 may be iiexed upwards so that thetongues 26 are freed from the openings 2l and then the@ plate 28 may be removed and replaced.
When the slide fastener 31 is opened it is possible to reach into the pocket BI-landk remove the plate 3 5 from the framing strip 35. The plate 35 may then be replaced or exchanged with a similar plate.
1n Fig. 9 the painted picture plate 4I Sa is shown.
tofbe mounted onV an interlining` 4.0 by adhesive.
or .by any other means.V The purse 4l forms an opening d2 v anda lfinished edge 43 by.' folding inwardly the edgesjili oi the purse material M, around the openingAZ.
