Description

Patented Dec. 9, 1930 v 1,7 84,066
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ERNST nnmzn, o1- wmnonr, 1mm OOLOGNE-ON-TEE-BHINE, emery, Assmn'on. TO I. e. rammmmus'rm urmnensnnscm'r, or FRANKFORT-ON-THE-MAIN,
' enamuw PROCESS IOB PRODUCING HYDBOXIDES 01' ALKALI METALS Ho brewing. Application fled latch 28, 1928, Serial lie. 87,777, and in Germany April 1, 1985.
The present invention relates to a process of producing the hydroxides of the alkali metals and alkaline earth metals.
In the United States Patent No. 1,532,489 5 Ser. No. 742,057 there is described a process of producing the hydroxides of the alkali forming metals, which process consists in treating an amalgam of an alkali forming metal with waterin the presence of an alloy of iron with chromium.
I have now found that this process is highly accelerated by using a' stirrer made of carbon or carbon like roducts e. g. coke, graphite or a mixture 0 these products or a mixture with alloys.
I claim: y
1. The processwhich comprises agitating an amalgam of an alkali-forming metal in the presence of water by means of a stirrer composed of carbon material.
2. The process which comprises agitating an amalgam of an alkali-forming metal in the presence of water by means of a stirrer composed of graphite.
' In testimony whereof I have hereunto setmy hand.
. ERNST HEINZE.
