ELIZA F. PENLEY, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,379, dated June 6, 1876 application filed I April 15,1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELIZA F. PENLEY, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new Improvement in Rattan-Flowers, of which the followin g is a specification The accompanying drawing represents a perspective View of an improved rattan-flower.
The object of my invention is to produce, as a new article of manufacture, flowers, leaves, and other ornamental articles of rattan-pith, by which a striking and neat effect is produced. i
The invention consists of flowers, leaves, and other articles cut of layers of rattan-pith or other wooden strips, wound in continuous strands or coils and cemented together, the leaves being attached to a suitable stem.
In the drawing, A represents a flower, which is made up of a number of leaves, B, that are cut or stamped out of a curved layer or sheet formed of rattan or other pith, which is wound in continuous strands or coil and cemented Flowers, leaves, and analogous articles, cut I out of sheets or layers of rattan-pith, wound in a continuous strand or coil, and cemented to a stem, core, or other supporting device, substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified.
