'As'is known to those skilled inthe art a corset as distinguished fromother garments is worn primarily to change or modify the figure of the wearer, or to provide a certain degree of support or support at certain points. Therefore it is desirable that the measurements taken from the figure be accurate and exactly according to the measurements' of the figureas modified. Before my invention it was customary for a 'cor-setiere to apply the old corset to the customer and take the measurements from that, but 'frequently the old corset was not of the proper construction or was too nearly worn out, and

measurements taken were accordingly erroneous and led to the making of unsatisfactory corsets. 7

Other objects of my invention are to provide apparatus of the character described comprising a plurality of series of sections, the sections of each series being of different sizes and each section having means for separably connecting it to another section,

whereby a section from each of said series can be connected together accordmg to the girth of the person to be fitted and applied to such person to modify the figure as it is desired that a corset shall do; to provide such apparatus wherein each of said sections is composed of a plurality of relatively adjustable parts, and to obtain other advantages and results as will be brought out by the following description. i i

Specifically describing the invention the apparatus consists of a series of front sections of any suitable number, for example three, two of whichare designated in Figures 2 and 3 by the reference characters 1 and 2 respectively. The apparatus also includes a similar series of back sections which are designated in Figures 2, 4 and 5 as 3, 4 and 5 respectively. These sections of each series arefof different sizes as will be evident from the respective figures of the drawing; and in the larger sizes, each section consists of a plurality of parts 6 whichare connected together for relative adjustment any suit able means such as the lacings 7. These front sectionsand back sections arecomplemental i with side sections 8 which also preferably comprise two parts 9 relatively adjustably connected by lacings 10. The sideedges of all of the sections are provided with quick detachable or cast-off meanssuch as separable fastenerelements for connecting each section to a complemental section, for example, in the ,present instance each edge of each front section is provided with a series of eyelets 11, while oneedge of each side section8 is pro- Vided with hooks 12 to connect with the eyes 11, The other edge of each side section 8 is provided with hooks 13 vwith which cooperate of the pers0n,a small pe'rson requiring'the smaller. sections," while a larger, person rei quires the larger sections. The apparatus is applied by connecting the fastener elements of the edges of the end sections, whichever may be the end sections; in the present instance eyes 1% on the one edge of the back section 3 will be connected to the hooks 13 on the edge of the side section 8. Of course, the lacings 7 and 10 will be loosened, and after the edges of the apparatus have been connected together as described the laces will be tightened to draw the apparatus about the figure and so modify the figure as desired. The necessary measurements for making a corset are then taken from the apparatus; and to facilitate in these measurements cer tain oi. the sections are provided with loops 16 through which may be threaded a tape measure or the like for taking the waist measurements, said loops indicating the line at which the waist measurements should be taken. Similarly certain of the sections have other loops 17 to indicate the line for taking the hip measurements. lVith tape measure or the like threaded through the loops 16 and 17 horizontal lines are established from which other measurements may be taken.

Where it is desired that the corset have an abdominal support, the apparatus may be provided with a part 18 formed of three sections connected by lacings 19 as indicated by dotted lines on Figure 2, said part being arranged on the inside of the apparatus and adjustably connected thereto by straps 20 and buckles 21. The lacings 19 admit of the desired t of the abdominal support, while the straps 20 and buckles 21 admit of diflierent types or sizes of supports to be applied to the apparatus, as well as enabling the location of the support with respect to the site sections of the apparatus to be adjusted.

Instead ot' providing a plurality or series ot front sections and a series of back sections, I may provide one front section and one back section ha 'ing a plurality of series of fastener elements as shown in Figure 6 of the drawings. Here the front section 27 has at its edges three series of eyelets 23 arranged in spaced relation and with any of which series the hooks 12 at the edges of the side sections may be connected. Similarly the back section 28 is provided at each edge with a plurality of series of eyes 24 with which may be connected the hooks 13 at the corres .mding edges of the side sections. With this construction it will be observed that the size or leu th of the apparatus may be modified desired by connecting the hooks of the side sections to one or other series of eyes 28 or 24: on the front sections and back sections respectively. The use of this appa- :atus is otherwise identical with that of the apparatus shown in Figure 2.

lVhile I have shown the invention as embodied in certain details of construction it will be understood that this is primarily for illustrating the principles of the invention and that lnany modifications and changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

A corsetieres fitting apparatus coi'nprising a front section, a back section and side sections, said sections extending from top to bottom of the apparatus, and each section being composed of a plurality of parts each extending from top to bottom of the respective section, means for connecting the side edges of said parts of each section for relative adjustment of said parts and quick-detachable fastener elements on both side edges 0% each of said sections to cooperate with the fastener elements on another section for separably connecting the side edges of said sections together so that a corsetiere may connect said sections together and apply said apparatus girthwise t0 the body of a person to be fitted for a corset, relatively adjust said parts of the sections by the first-mentioned means to modify the figure as desired, and take measurements for a corset to be made to maintain said modified figure.
