Description

()at 23 193%. A. F. W. THORMAN'N 1937735335 HOSE CABLE Filed Feb. 15, 1928 Patented Oct. 21, 1930 PATENT OFFICE ALBERT F, W. THORMANN, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA HOSE CABLE Application filed February 15, 1928. Serial 1T0. 254,594.
My invention relates to a hose wire for carrying high tension currents and one of the objects of the invention is to provide such a wire, that will have'sufiicient strength so 5 as to carry the load arising from the weight of the wire itself, the snow load and the wind load, when the wire is stretched between two posts.
A further object is to provide such a wire that will have a smooth surface.
I accomplish the desired result by building up a compound hosewire, using as a base and carrier, a Wire hose of any suitable metal, preferably braided, and among which are steel, bronze, copper. aluminum or alloys of these metals, and of any suitable hollow form, such as round or elliptical. Upon the outside of this wire hose, I may spray, by well known metal spraying processes, any suitable metal, such as zinc, aluminum, copper, bronze, or alloys of these metals; also, for example, a zincla'yer first and on top of this'a copper layer, or any combination of those metals already specified. Upon this sprayed metal base I may then deposit, electrolytically or otherwise, a layer of any other electrically conductive metal such as copper or aluminum or other suitable metals.
Instead of first spraying a metal coating on the wire hose, I may electro-deposit a metal coating directly on the woven or braided carrier hose. Referring to the drawing for a more complete disclosure of the invention: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one form of the invention; and
, Fig. 2 is a transverse section of another form of the invention.
As shown in Fig. 1, the round wire hose 2 has superimposed on it the metal sprayedcoating 3 and on top of this a second sprayed coat of different metal or an electrically posited metal coating 4.
As shown in Fig. 2, the elliptical wire hose 2 .has the single sprayed or electro-deposited coat 5 directly adhering to it.
From the above description it will be clear that I provide-a. composite, hollow wire, the so under portion of which is a woven or braided hose and superimposed upon this are one or more layers of suitable metals.
I am aware that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without depart- 1ng from the spirit or essential attributes thereof and I therefore desire the present embodiment to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, reference being had to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing description to indicate the scope of the invention.
What I claim as new'and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A high tension electric .conductor hose cable comprising an inner part formed of a wire hose and an outershell of sprayed metal on the outer side of the wire hose.
2. A high tension electric conductor hose cable comprising an inner part formed by a wire hose which acts as a base, a metal spray on the outer side of the wire hose and a shell of electrodeposited metal on the outside of the metal spray.
3. A high tension electric conductor hose cable comprising an inner part formed of a wire hose which acts as a base and carrier, and an outer shell of electrodeposited metal surrounding the hose.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. ALBERT F. W. THOBMAN N
