I IMPROVEMENT IN CIGAR-PACKING MACHINESL Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,608, dated May 16, 1876; application filed January 28, 1876.

To'all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, STEPHEN WOODARD and'ALBERT WOODARD, of Z'anesville, in. the

county-of Mu'skingum, and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar Bunching and Pressing Machine; and do hereby declare that the side view; Fig. 2, a plan view; and Figs. 3,

4, and 5, are views of detached portions of the machine, as will be described.

In the figures, A represents a table, upon which my apparatus is placed and secured. B represents a small Windlass, which is secured upon the table, and which is provided with a ratchet-wheel, 0, and a pawl or detent,

E represents a metallic hand, one end of which is secured to the barrel of the Windlass, and the other end to a plate, a, which is secured to or made fast to the post 0. This band forms a loop, E, as seen in Fig. 2, which can be closed by the Windlass when desirable. The band E passes between the post 0 and the roller D, and is thus retained and held in position. F represents a metallic band with overlapping loose ends. This band poses herein set forth.

The spring-ring Gr allows the cigars to be moved endwise in the band F, and when one-half of the bundle projects beyond'the band, the usual ribbon is tied around it, and it is then ready for boxing.

It will be seen that by this apparatus or machine cigarsmay be pressed and tied with great facility and very cheaply.

Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' l.
