The present invention relates to im rovements in memorial tablets and has or its principal object to provide a structure that includes a pair ofcomplementary unitsso arranged as to display to view a picture and a placard having a memorial inscription thereon, the inner opposed edge portions of the units being adapted to provide a pocket for receiving a flower vase or receptacle.

Another important object of the invention is to provide a combined memorial tablet and flower vase holder of the above-mentioned character that will be ornamental and which is of such size as to permit the same to .be placed in an upright position on a table, shelf or other suitable support.

A still further object is to provide a structure of the above-mentioned character wherein an ornamental covering is secured across the front faces of a pair of complementar blocks, said covering being provided with openings to permit the display of the picture and inscription placard supported by the front faces ofthe respective blocks and which picture and placard are readily and easily inserted 'or removed, a flexible covering being securedacross the rear faces of the blocks to retain the same in position, the inner opposed edges of the blocks being cut out to accommodate a flower vase.

A still further object is to provide a memorial tablet of the above-mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive. strong and durable and further well adapted for the purposes for which it is desi ed.

Other objects and advantages of t e invention will become-apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.

In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 desi nates generally my improved memorial ta let, the same comprising a pair of like rectangular shaped wooden blocks 2. Each block is formed in its inner side edge with an armate groove 3 that extends for the entire length thereof and the purpose of this construction will be presently described. Each block is furthermore formed in its front face with a the rectangular shaped cut out portion 4 that extends fromthe loweredge to a point ad'acent the upper edge of the block and prov'i es a pocket for a purpose to be presently described.

The blocks are'disposed vertically and in angular relation with respect to each other so that an obtuse angle is-formed and the inner opposed edge portions of the complementary blocks are spaced a slight distance apart.

A metallic covering 5 is disposed across the front faces of the complementary blocks, the end portions of the sheet metal covering being bent around the outer side edge portions of the blocks and secured to the rear faces of said blocks by any appropriate fastening means if so desired. The fastenin means may not be necessary as the free en s of the rear faces of the outer edge portions of the blocks as suggested in Figure 3. The upper I edge portion of the sheet metal covering 5 is bent over the upper edges of the respective wooden blocks 2 and it will be observed that the intermediate portion 6 of this metallic covering is disposed in angular relation with respect to the end portions of the metallic i covering 5, in other words, the end portions of the metal covering 5 diverge from the intermediate portion 6. The upper edge of the intermediate portion 6 terminates flush with the upper edges of the blocks 2.

The lower edge of the metalic covering 5 is bent around the lower edges of the respec-' tive blocks and also covers the space formed between the grooved inner opposed side edges of the block.

The front face of the metallic covering 5 may be ornamented in any suitable manner and an oval shaped opening 7 is formed in the angularly disposed end portions of the covering for disposition over the respective cut out portions 4 formed in the adjacent block 2.

A flexible backing of any suitable material 8 is stretched across the rear faces of the blocks and is secured thereto by any appropriate fastening means, the intermediate portion of the covering being adapted to close the rear side of the space formed between the inner opposed edges of the complementary blocks and this space is adapted to receive a removable c lindrical flower vase 9, the channeled portions 3 being shaped to conform to the curvature of the opposite sides of the cylindrical base. The flared mouth projects above the upper edges of the blocks as clearly suggested in Figure 1.

The portion of the metallic covering 5 that extends across the lower edges of the blocks is formed with the longitudinally .extending slots 10 for registration with the open lower ends of the respective pockets 4 so that a picture or the like may be readily and easily inserted within the respective pockets for disposition behind the opening 7 formed in each end portion of the metallic covering 5.

In one pocket there is adapted to be placed a picture of the deceased person while in the other pocket, a placard bearing appropriate memorial inscriptions is placed. However the present device may be employed for receiving any desirable picture or inscription bearing placard as desired.

When the pictures or placards are properly positioned in their respective pockets and the tablet is placed in an upright position on the table or other appropriate support, the picture or placard will be both presented to view and also the vase will be adapted to receive flowers and the structure will present a neat a pearance.

The simplicity o my device enables the same to be constructed at a very low cost and yet be strong and durable.

While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that minor changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. In a structure of the class described, a central receptacle portion and outwardly extending side portions a casing therefore, the front of the casing being provided with an opening over each side portion for displaying a picture or placard inserted between opposed edges of the si the front face of each side portion and the adjacent portion of'the covering.

2. In a device of the class described, a central receptacle portion and outwardly extending side portions, the inner edges of the side portions being grooved to receive the receptacle portion. means for securing the side portions together, each block being provided in its front face with means for supporting a picture or placard.

3. In a structure of the class described, a central receptacle portion and outwardly extending side portions," the front face of each side portion being cut out to provide a picture or placard receivin pocket, a metallic covering over the front aces of the side portions, the upper and lower edges of the metallic covering being bent over the upper and lower edges respectively of the side portions, the ends of the metallic covering being bent around the respective outer side edges of the side portions, said covering being formed with openings over the respective pockets formed in the side ortions, and anadditional covering secured across the rear faces of the side portions.

4. In a structure of the class described, a central receptacle portion and outwardly extending side portions, the front face of each side portion being cut out to provide a picture or placard receiving pocket, a metallic covering over the front faces of the side portions, the upper and lower edges of the metallic covering being bent over the upper and lower edges respectively of the side portions, the ends of the metallic coverin(g being bent around the respective outer si e ed es of the side portions, said covering being formed with openings over the respective pockets formed in the side portions, and an additional covering secured across the rear faces of the side ortions, the inner 5e portions being formed with longitudinally extending cut out portions to provide a receptacle receiving pocket.
