Assistant Examiner-Wenceslao T. Contreras At(0rney-Zarley, McKee & Thomte [5 7] ABSTRACT A record display device comprising a plurality of vertically spaced transparent jacket support members adapted to receive and support a record jacket therein. The uppermost support member is suspended from a suitable support means with the other support member being supported from the support member thereabove. The support members are rotatable about a vertical axis with respect to the other support members. In the modified form of the device, the record jackets are supported in a vertically spaced relationship by a transparent strap means extending therearound and therebetween.
1 Claim, 4 Drawing figures RECORD DISPLAY DEVICE The design or appearance of record jackets has progressed to a point where they are extremely attractive and decorative. However, no convenient means has heretofore been provided which permits the record jackets to be conveniently displayed, either at home or in the record store, wherein the jackets are visible.
Therefore, it is a principal object of this invention to provide a record display device.
A further object of this invention is to provide a record jacket display device.
A further object of this invention is to provide a record display device wherein the records or jackets are visible.
A further object of this invention is to provide a record jacket display device which will enhance sales.
A further object of this invention is to provide a display device for record jackets wherein the aesthetic value of the jackets may be enjoyed.
A further object of this invention is to provide a display device for record jackets wherein the jackets are displayed in a vertical spaced relationship with respect to each other.
A further object of this invention is to provide a record jacket display device wherein each of the jackets are rotatable about a vertical axis with respect to the jacket next adjacent thereto.
A further object of this invention is to provide a record jacket display device wherein the jackets may be easily removed therefrom.
A further object of this invention is to provide a record jacket display device which prevents dust from accumulating on the jackets.
A further object of this invention is to provide a record jacket display device wherein a plurality of record jackets are rotatable about a vertical axis with respect to each other so that room air currents will rotate the same.
A further object of this invention is to provide a record jacket display device which is economical to manufacture, durable in use and refined in appearance.
These and other objects will be apparent to those skilled in the art.
This invention consists in the construction, arrangements, and combination of the various parts of the device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained as hereinafter more fully set forth, specifically pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of the device illustrating one method of supporting the same;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged sectional view as seen along lines 22 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a partial plan view of the modified form of the device; and
FIG. 4 is an enlarged sectional view as seen along lines 4-4 of FIG. 3.
The preferred embodiment of this device is shown in FIG. 1 and designated by the reference numeral 10. The device may be suitably suspended from a ceiling 12 by a toggle bolt anchor 14 or may be suspended from any other suitable support such as a support pole or the like.
Chain 16 extends downwardly from anchor 14 and has a swivel 18 secured to its lower end. Chains 20 and 22 extend downwardly from swivel 18 as illustrated in FIG. 1 and are 1 will secured to the upper end of a transparent sleeve 24 by any convenient means. Sleeve 24 is preferably formed from a transparent plastic material and includes opposite sides 26 and 28, top 30, bottom 32 and ends 34 and 36. It is preferred that only one of the ends 34 and 36 be opened to facilitate the insertion of a record jacket 38 therein. However, both of the ends 34 and 36 may be opened if it is desired to be able to insert the record jacket from either end of the sleeve. Swivel 38 is secured to the bottom of sleeve 24 by any convenient means and has chains 20' and 22' extending downwardly therefrom. Inasmuch as each of the sleeves for supporting the record jackets are identical, each of the same will not be described in detail.
Any number of the sleeves 24 may be used in'the device, the
number depending upon the particular wishes of the person displaying the record jackets. The fact that each of the sleeves 24 are rotatable about the vertical axis with respect to each other results in the sleeves rotating with respect to each other due to room air currents thereby providing movement which attracts a persons attention. The plastic sleeves 24 permit the record jackets to be visible therethrough so that the aesthetic appearance of the record jackets is visible. In a record store, the fact that the record jackets are visible will certainly aid in drawing the purchasers attention thereto for potential sales thereof. Thus it can be seen that the device of FIGS. 1 and 2 accomplishes at least all of its stated objectives.
A modified form of the device is shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 and provides the same results as the device 10 except that the record jackets are not rotatable with respect to each other. In FIGS. 3 and 4, the record display device .is generally designated by the reference numeral 40. A pair of clear plastic straps 42 and 44 are suspended from a suitable support means and have a plurality of vertically spaced supports 46 extending therebetween as illustrated in FIG. 4. The supports 46 are provided to support the record jacket 48 thereon. Straps 50 and 52 are also provided for supporting the other end of the record jacket and would be suspended from the support means. The straps 50 and 52 have supports extending therebetween identical to supports 46 for supporting the record jackets in a vertically spaced relationship. The device of FIGS. 3 and 4 permits the record jackets to be easily inserted thereinto and removed therefrom with the ornamental appearance of the record jackets being visible. The device 40 of FIGS. 3 and 4 not only enhance record sales in a record store but also provides a decorative display for use in the home. Thus it can be seen that the device of FIGS. 3 and 4 likewise accomplishes all of its stated objectives.
I claim:
- l. A phonograph record display device, comprising,
a plurality of substantially square, vertically spaced phonograph record jacket support members,
the uppermost phonograph record jacket support member being secured to a support means positioned thereabove, said support members comprising a sleeve means adapted to slidably receive the record jacket therein,
and interconnection means extending between the support members,
said interconnection means comprising a swivel means to permit said support members to rotate about a vertical axis with respect to the other support members.
