Description
Sept. 2, 1930. REBlCHON 1,774,667
EXTENS IBLE METAL STOPPER Fil ed Jan. 1929 Patented Sept. 2, 1930 UNITED STATES ANDRE REIBICHON, OF PARISyFRANCE- EXTENSIBLE METAL STOPPER Application filed January 7, 1929, Serial No. 330,738, and in France October 31, 1928.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved device which will assure extensible metal stoppers on bottles and the like against undiscovered fraudulent tampering.
A further object involves the use of a device in the form of a safety or guarantee band of small width which does not trespass upon the edges of the extensible stopper.
The invention also has for its object to 10 avoid the use of bands of paper gummed around the stopper, which are insecurely attached and may easily be rubbed off.
These aforesaid objects are attained by means of a device the essential features of which are described in the following specification, the novel features being pointed out in the accompanying claims.
Some devices for use with extensible metal stoppers according to the invention are 50 shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings, wherein Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of the combined device before stoppering.
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the detached guarantee or safety band.
Fig. 3 is a general view of the device after stoppering.
Fig. 4 is a view showing a varied form of the invention.
Fig. 5 is aview showing the construction features of this varied form.
The device of Figs. 1 to 3 comprises a thin metal band 0 with two co-operating shaped ends 0 e for closing the band. The central part of the band having the openings 71 i underneath and being convex above them is provided with a stamped feather L which connects with a member j to form a stamped block (Fig. 2). The feather L is introduced into the opening of the lever A, the spaces 2' z" of the band being adapted to receive the wires E forming part of the lever A while the member j rests exactly under the bar I) forming part of the lever A (Fig. 1).
The lever A is a twisted wire which hooks on the ends 70', k of the wire carried by the rolled edges m of the extensible metal stopper 1% in a manner well understood.
Fig. 3 gives a general View of the safety band 0 in looking position after stoppering.
The length of the feather L is such that, when member 7' is fitted belowthe cross bar I) of the lever A, the feather completelyengages the wires E of the lever A, so that the stamped combination formed by the member j and the feather L cannot move upwards or down: wards, or from right to left, whereby the po sition of the safety band 0 is fixed.
If an attempt is made to raise the feather L with a pointed instrument of any kind, it is broken or bent out of shape, thus indicating that it has been-tampered with.
The aflixing of this guarantee band, automatically or otherwise, is greatly facilitated by the fact that the feather L hooks or catches in the stirrup E asit is not necessary to sup; port it by other means. The band may be made of any metal of suitable width and shape. Even should the central member y' be omitted, the band would partially answer the purpose for which it is designed, with its openings and point 2.
Further embodiments of the invention are shown in Figs. 4 and 5.
According to one of these forms (Fig. 4), a bar p covers the lower end of the lever A, fitting to its shape.
In a method of constructing this form (Fig. 5) the central part of the bar is provided in its upper part with a stamped point g bent on itself so as to hook in the twisted part of the lever A whilst the centre of the bar fits to the shape of the crossed wires constituting the tail of lever A.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a stoppering device with an extensible metal stopper; a lever for effecting closing of the stopper; a band provided at its ends with means for joining these ends and having a feather engaging, when in operative position, said lever, said feather losing its shape if any attempt is made to fraudulently work said lever to open said stopper, signs of tampering being then visible.
2. In a device for stoppering with an ex tensible metal stopper; a lever for effecting closure of the stopper, a safety band provided on its ends with means for joining these ends and having a curved central part and a feather on this central part, the said band fitting With its curved central part on the said lever While the feather engages in operative position with the said lever and loses its shape when any fraudulent attempt is made to Work this lever to open the stopper, this loss of shape betraying this fraudulent attempt.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification.
ANDRE REBIGHON.
