Description

UNITED STATES STEPHEN THORNE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO MARIE E. THORNE,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF SAME PLAGE.
IMQ'RovEMENT IN DICE-Boxes.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [77,438, dated May 16, 1876; application filed March 11, 1876.
Y means ot' mechanism attached thereto for that purpose, the dice are caused to be disturbed or displaced by tumbling to the center of the disk, which, when released, throws them to the top ot' the case or shade in which they are inclosed. A
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective, and Fig. 2 a sectional, view. Fig. 3 shows the ring which secures the shade and the rubber disk in position.
A is a glass shade or cover, in which'the dice are confined. B is the base, to the top ot' which is attached the rubber disk or diaphragm which throws the dice. The base B may be made of metal or other suitable matev rial. C represents the rubber disk, diaphragm, or springupon which the dice rest, and is se cured to the top of' the base B by a rubber ring, D, to which it is connected. E is an open cap or ring, with an inverted ilange, which holds the glass shade in position, and, at the Sametime, acts as a binder to the rubber disk or spring G. F is a button, which is secured to the center of the disk G, and to whichA is secured the operating mechanism for depressing the diaphragm C. G is a cord or wire attached to the button F, the opposite end being secured Y to a lever, whereby the rubber disk is depressed when the diceare to be thrown. H is a lever, to which the cord or wire G is attached, and by pushing down the lever, and then releasing it, the dice are thrown.
The operation is as follows: To throw the dice the lever H is forced down, thereby depressing the diaphragm O, causing the dice to be disturbed and to tumble to the center ot' the diaphragm, which makes it impossible to tamper with the dice orthrow a desired number. Upon releasing the lever the recoil ot' the diaphragm throws the dice to the top ot' the shade, when they fall upon the disk, which immediately assumes its horizontal position at'ter being released.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
.1. The dicefbox herein described, consisting ot' the base B, the rubber disk C, and glass cover A, in combination with the lever H and cord G centrally secured to said disk, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a dice-box having atransparent cover, an' elastic disk, on which the dice are supported, connected with operating mechanism by which the disk may be centrally depressed and suddenly released, substantially as described.
