AVIATOR S CAP Filed June 19, 1929 5 w mllllllllll I 17203 Mar /wwjmboggo Patentecl Augl, 26, 1930 UNITED STATES! AvIA'rons oAr r Application filed June 19,
This invention relates to a new and improved sanitary av ators cap.
One of the objects of my invention is the provision of a removable lining for aviators" caps whereby a soiled lining can be quickly and readily removed and replaced by a new one.
erably of felt or similar material which is detachably secured within the cap and provided with theusual earflaps and downwardly depending head flange so that the lining will readily conform to the interior shape of the cap and can be "quickly and readily placed in position or removed from the cap. A still further object of the inventionis the provision of an aviators cap having a removable lining providing a cap of sanitary type and. wherein {the construction of the cap is such as to provide an inturned edge at the front of the cap to form a sweat band extending entirely across the forehead portion of the cap, so as'to eliminate the continuous wear of the lining at this point and also prevent the lining from becoming saturated with perspiration which would render it stiff and comparatively unpliable.-
With the above and other objects in view,
the construction of my invention consists in the novel features of construction, the com-' bination and arrangement of parts herein- 40 after more fully set forth, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 isa pers pective View of an aviators cap constructed in accordance with my tion of the .1 invention, illustrating the applica same; Figure 2 is a detailed section line 2-2 of Figure 1 i Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;

-In carrying out myi casing or body i portion of the cap maybe dome-like head piece 1, made 'up of a plug rality of sections sewed together, and at'the ,'1ower;edge of the I head piece 1' i's a depend ing "flange which preferably extends frorn the forehead 1 or the], temple 'part all the nf theline nvention,'* the; enter on of theusual leather type and includes the" mane theback or the headandprojejctin'g downwardly from "the flange 2, in order 'to'; cover the v'e arsand extend beneath the lower jaws of. the party. wearing the; cap are the suitable typeofdetach'able' securing means for connecting the'tabs beneath th'e*chinoff t e wearer.
e The above'is's tabs3, and attachedto these tabs .3 is'jany" r V I ubstanti'ally the usualcon 1 struction" dfthe' "ordinary leather aviator-"s? cap'rand in order to provide a sanitary lining.
i for this type of cap, I provide-asingle piece Offfelt or other desirable'material cut-to con; form to the shape of the: domef-likeheadpiece" 1, the depending flange 2 and the tabs 3; This V 1 lining which is generally indicated at 4 canf 'be'stamp'ed in a single pieceto' fconfor'm to? the shape of the: capas "stated, and in vorder to detachably connect the 1 lining to; the in} terior'fofthe cap,- the exterior surface o flithe lining is provided .With a pluralitj zfofsnap:
s e s 15- 'f l P e 0 popemt with. ii lar fasteners '6, carried by the/interior Lof the g body of thecap', the "flange 2 and'the"tab'si3.-
These fasteners may be of'any well known? r ges of the tabs type, preferably of theihea'd, and sockettype- V i and the flange 2'are provided with a binder the head part andthe lower edge is turned upwardly onto the' inner face otfthe lining, V
7, and the entire outer edges of the removable extends down onto the forehead ofthe wearer V is somewhat longer than the other sections of as shown in Figure 2, forming a suitable sweatband 9 extending from each end of the flange 2 across the forehead. This sweat band protects the lining against wear at this point 5 and also prevents the lining from absorbing the perspiration usually occurring on the forehead, iand is not secured down in any particular-manner but can befolded outwardly when the lining is placed in position and m then folded back to the position shown in Figure 2 after the lining has been'placed within the body of the cap. 7
It will be apparent from the foregoing that p I have provided a usefuhisanitary lining for caps,.particularly the caps orhel'mets which are worn by aviators, which can be quickly and readily placed in position upon the in teriorof the caper removed when so desired.
In view of the fact that thelining can be 2! cut; in a. single piece, the device is very inexpensive and at the sametimeservesa very useful purpose, in that it not. only provides a sanitary lining but different weights of material can be used foradding to the comfort 2 of the party wearing the cap, as the lining,
can be-rmade of comparatively heavy felt to withstand extreme low temperature.
5, While, I have shown, and described the preferredembodiment-ofmy invention, it will be apparent that slight changes may be made i in the construction when putting the inven tion into practice without departing from the spirit of the same or the scope of the appendedc1aim,- v i r 3 I claim: V
QA'device of the class described including ahead-shapedbody member having a depending fiangeat the sides and back thereofl: tabs depending from the lower edge of the 2' V 40? flange at. the ends thereof, means'for detachably connecting the outer ends. of the tabs, a removablelining formed of a single piece ofmaterial adapted to cover the entire interior surface of the body, the flange and the tabs, fastening members carriedby the lining,'fastenin members carried by the body, fiangeland ta sffor detachably engaging the fastening members on thelining to retain the lining in position, and an integral depending 7 Mr flexible part. at; the. front of the body adapted to hefolded inwardly over the edge of the lining vtoform asw eat band. i i
testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee,- in
7 thecounty of Milwankee and State ofWisconsi'n'.
