This invention relates to an improved cushion for the butt end of fire arms of dif'- ferent types adapted to function as a shock absorber and located to permit it to be placed comfortably against the shoulder when liring. Y
More specifically stated, the invention has reference to an attachment in the form of a cap or sleeve which is intended to tit telescopically over the butt end of lthe stock,
wherein the same embodies an integral pneumatic pad or cushion.
My principal object is to provide a simple and inexpensive article of this class which is easy to apply and remove and which is unusually successful and efficient in use.

ln carrying out the invention, l provide a Para rubber body generally designated by the reference character 5.
It is formed to provide a tapered elastic retaining sleeve 6, ,which iits telescopically over the butt end of the stock 7 of the tire arm 8. As shown in Figure 2 it is provided with an internal diaphragm or partition 9, cooperating with the adjacent end 10 in forming a pneumatic chamber ll. The features 9, 10 and 11, form an air cushion or pad adapted to be placed against the shoulder of the user to absorb shock.
As seen in Figure 2 of the drawing, the partition 9 and end wall l0 are thickened at their opposed marginal portions where the greatest strain occurs due to the recoil of the lire arm. The thickened marginal portion of the partition 9 receives the thrust from the gun when the same is fired, thus preventing said partition from being torn from the sleeve 6. l

The air is inserted by means of a needle and upon withdrawing the needle the opening formed thereby automatically closes in an obvious manner.

I claim: As a newproduct of manufacture, an at tachment for fire arms comprising a single body of rubber including a tapered retaining sleeve having an end wall and an internal transverse partition spaced from said end wall and forming an air chamber, the opposed marginal portion of the partition and end wall being thickened in a manner to reinforce the same.
