My invention relates to hair brushes of that type which is purposed to house a comb,

The essential objects of my invention are to overcome the above disadvantages and provide amore eflicient means for guiding and retaining the housed comb, as well as lighten the weight ofthe brush.

llith these objects in mind my invention consists in such lparts and in such combina.- tions of parts as fall within the scope 'of the appended claims.

My brush includes a back 12 comprising a body portion 13 and handle portion 14. The usual metal shell 15 forms a casing for the top and side of the body, anda 'tubular eX- tension of the shell forms the handle portion 14 of the backf The lower open yportion or" the casing or metal shell body 15 is provided with an inturned peripheral flange 17 which tightly embraces and retains the usual bristle block 18 provided with holes 19 for the reception ofthe bristle tufts 20. lt will be observed that the upper surface of the block -g y 18 is flat and in alignment with the handle y portion 14, as wellas spaced from the metal top-of the body portion of the brush. Y Fixed to the flat surface of the bleek is a tubular transversely rectangular guide 22, composed of thin` metal or Celluloid bent up into final form, and comprising a fiat oblong top wall 23, and downwardly directed side walls 24, and an open bottom. integral with the lower portion of the sides are horizontal I lateral flanges 25 provided with perforations 26 :for the reception of nails, screws, or rivets 27' by meansv of which the member 22 is at# tachedto the block and in longitudinal` alignment with the hollow handle 14, and has one end registering with an oblong opening 28 in the forward end of the body casing.A The,

member 22 is shallow to insure that a flat comb 29, fitted to slide longitudinally through t the guide in contact with the block shall nevertheless have sufficient frictional engagement with the guidey and block to be retained in any desired portion therein.

The comb is preferably of greater length thanthe brush sov that' when one end of the former abuts against the closed end of the brush handle, the other end of the comb projects beyond the opposite end of the brush through the opening 28.

Since the tubular member 22 is composed of sheetmetal or Celluloid its walls are thin and have a slight degree of expansibility or resiliency, which insures adequate retention of the comb, and accommodates combs of Slightly varying dimensions.

I claim 1. In a hair brush, a. shell, a retaining flange upon the shell, a block engaged by the flange, bristles in the bloclr, and a longi- .tudinal'meinber fixed to the block with its top and sides spaced from the shell to form a guide, and a comb slidably mounted inthe guide and engageable at one end with the shell. 2. In ay hair brush, a shell, a retaining flange upon the bottom of the shell. a block embraced by the flange, bristles in the block, a resilient member fast to the block to form a guide, and a comb slidably mounted in the uide. Y
