Description
Aug. 18, 1936. w. DREYSSLER I 2 1,
TOOTH BRUSH Filed June 4, 1934 MY/fam firess/er INVENTOR ATTORN EY Patented Aug. 18, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to brushes, and its general object is to provide a toothbrush that is adjustable for use in brushing or cleaning both the outer and inner surfaces of the teeth in an easy and expeditious manner with very little effort.
Another object of the invention is to provide a toothbrush including a head and a handle therefor that is detachably associated therewith for changing the positions of the handle with respect to the head to facilitate the use of the brush in cleaning all of the surfaces of the teeth.
A further object of the invention is to provide a toothbrush of the character set forth, that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to use and extremely efficient in use and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of the toothbrush which forms the subject matter of the present invention showing the handle arranged at right angles with respect to the head.
Figure 2 is a side elevation with parts in section.
Figure 3 is a side elevation showing the handle arranged longitudinally with respect to the brush head.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral l indicates the head of my toothbrush which as shown is curved and has secured therein and extending from the outer curved surface thereof bristles arranged in tufts 2 of various sizes, with relatively short tufts disposed between the long ones as best shown in Figures 1 and 3 of the drawing.
On its concaved face the head I is centrally and longitudinally formed with a rib 3. The rib is spaced from the edges and ends of the head I and is formed, from its ends with inwardly tapered sockets 4 and with a central transverse tapered socket 5. The walls provided by the tapered sockets are flat, as shown and the lower or inner wall of each socket is disposed in close proximity to the concaved face of the head I.
g The handle for my brush is indicated by the reference numeral 6 and one of the ends of the handle is tapered as at l in square cornered formation to be detachably received in either of the bores 4 for fitting engagement therewith as clearly shown in Figure 3. The opposite end portion of the handle is disposed at right angles with respect to the body of the handle, as at 8, and the right 15 angle disposed portion is tapered in square cornered formation as at 9 for fitting engagement within the bore 5, as clearly shown in Figure 2.
The handle 6 is likewise substantially thickened midway its end as at ID with the thickened portion merging into the end portions of the handle so as to provide a convenient gripping means, to facilitate the use of the brush as will be apparent.
The tapered ends 1 or 9 of the handle 6 are of a size to be snugly received in any one of the respective sockets 4 or 5. When arranged in a selected socket the straight portion of the handle, adjacent to its said tapered end, will rest against and frictionally contact with the outer edge of the concaved back of the brush head, as best shown by Figures 2 and 3 and thus the handle is positively, but removably secured to the said brush head. This is especially true with respect to the showing in Figure 3 as the pointed end of the concaved back is in tight contact with the handle.
What I claim is:--
A toothbrush comprising a concaved back having a centrally arranged inset rib thereon, socketed to adapt it for the attachment of a handle, said socket, due to the inset rib providing a fit of the handle against the back.
WILLIAM DRESSLER.
