UNITED STATES HERBERT M. CEUBBUCK,
OF DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
COMBINATION COMB AND BRUSH.
Application filed June 4,
This invention relates to a combination comb and brush and has special reference to a novel form of construction of same, the principal object being that of simplicity, while another object is'to provide means whereby the comb is entirely surrounded by the bristles of the brush so that the extreme end of the brush may be used without enga ement by the comb.
ther objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the further description thereof.
Referring to the accompanying drawing forming part of this application and in which like reference characters indicate like parts:
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the combination comb and brush P Figure'2 is a face elevation of the combination part of the brush;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the body portion with the back removed, and
Figure 4 is a section on the line 44, Figure 1.
The body portion of the brush is illustrated at 1 and the handle, which is an integral part thereof, at 2. The body portion has formed therein the longitudinally disposed slot or opening 3 which extends entirely through said portion, the terminations 40 of said slot being such as to snugly receive the back of the comb 4. The back of the body portion is stepped in respect to the handle extension and a back or cover 5 is provided for same to form a closure therefor. This cover may be fastened in place by 'means of screws, brads, or glue, as desired, and, by having this cover removable it 1923. Serial No. 643,284.
is evident that the slot 3 may be formed slightly wider adjacent the back than at the face, so as to insure tight fitting of the comb when placed therein.
Upon either side and about the ends of the slot 3 and upon the face of the body portion is formed a similar slot 6 for the reception of the bristles forming the brush portion of the lnstrument. This slot however does not pass entirely through the body portion of the comb but is only a recess or channel into which the bristles 7 of the brush are fitted or set, and fixed either by glue, rubber or the like. The particularly novel feature of this instrument is that the bristles of the brush extend wholly about the ends of the comb and are spaced slightly therefrom, so that when the instrument is being used in the brushing of ones mustache or eye brows the same may be readily accomplished by using the forward end of the brush only, when the teeth of the comb would not contact the person of the user.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: i
A combined comb-and brush comprising a single piece handle and body portion, the latter having a central through slot extending longitudinally thereof for the reception of the comb, and the entire back of the body portion being stepped, a cover for said stepped portion of the body forming a continuation of the handle, and a second slot extending wholly about the first mentioned slot but not entirely through the back, and a row of brush bristles fixed within said surrounding slot and spaced from the comb, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HERBERT M. CHUBBUCK.
