IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-HOLDERS FOR USE IN CARRIAGES, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,995, dated May 2, 1876; application filed March 11, 1876.

My invention relates especially to carriage windows, but is equally applicable to car-windows, house-windows, doors, &c.; and it consists in a sliding bolt or stop, having toothed or ratcheted under surface, and with orwithout a rubber bumper, a bed-plate provided with perforated head, and a spring-plate having a button or-knob and spring-bolt, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and definitely claimed.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in whichp Figure l is a plan view of .my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a side view.
A represents a bed-plate of any suitable dimensions, provided with a centra-lhead. B,-
having a hole for the passage of the sliding bolt C at right angles with the plate. The" bolt or stop C is formed at its outer end with a knob or head, C, on its under side, with a toothed bar, a. In the inner end of the bolt or stop C is inserted a rubber block, 1), projecting a short distance beyond the end of the bolt. On the under side of the bed-plate A is secured a spring, D, at one end, and at the other end of the spring is attached the shank of a button, G, which passes up through the plate. In the spring I) is fastened a bolt, d, which passes up through whole in the head B, and has its upper end beveled to engage with the teeth a on the under side of the bolt.
It will readily be seen that the bolt or stop windows, to be applied on the meeting-rails;
but it may be applied in any other suitable manner, and on car or other windows, doors, 85c.
The rubber I) on the end of the bolt prevents all rattling.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The sliding bolt or stop C, having toothed or ratoheted under surface a, and with or without rubber bumper I), the bedplate A, provided'with perforated head B, and the spring-plate ;D, having button or knob G and spring-bolt d, all substantially as shown and described,
and for the purposes herein set forth.
