Description

July 1, 1930. o. DOWNING CONCRETE HANGER INSERT I Filed July 16, 1928 ATTORNEY Patented July 1, 1930 UNITED STATES OMER L. DOWNING, OF SOUTH NORWOOD, 'OI-IIO ooncnn'rn HANGER INSERT Application filed July 16,
This invention contemplates the provision of a concrete hanger insert including an adjustable bolt Support cable all being quickly and easily adjusted with relation to its bracket, and subsequently maintained fixed relatively to the latter in a given position, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and V wherein:
Figure 1 is a sectional view showing the 1-3 manner of using the insert.
Figure 2 isv a bottom plan view.
. Figure 3 is a detail view of the bolt support.
Figure f is a sectional View on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
The device forming the subject matter of the present invention comprises an elongated hollow bracket 10 formed with a longitudinal slot 11 along the bottom thereof and extending throughout the length of the bracket. The opposed edges of the slot 11 are formed with vertical grooves 12 for a purpose to be presently described. Projecting from both ends of the bracket at the top thereof are apertured lugs 13 which receive suitable fastening elements 14 for attaching the bracket in place, and which lugs are also utilized as hangers for the bracket in the concrete. Arranged within the bracket is a substantially rectangular plate 15 having a reduced portion or thickness 16 .on the under side thereof which is considerably shorter than the length of the plate 15 and formed to provide opposed rounded lugs or projections 17. This plate 15 as Well as the reduced portion 16 is provided with a central threaded opening 18 to receive the body of a bolt 19 as shown in Figure 4. The plate 15 has two corners rounded as at 20 which permits slight movement of the plate in one direction within the bracket, while the opposite two corners 21 are square to cooperate with the adjacent sides of the bracket to prevent turning of the plate while 59 the bolt 19 is being associated therewith.
1928. Serial No. 293,031.
The plate 15 can be quickly and conveniently adjusted along the bracket to its desired location, and when so positioned thelugs or projections 17 are received in onepair of opposed grooves 12. When the bolt 19 has been threaded through the opening 18 a distance to contact the top wall of the bracket, the parts are effectively locked in their associated positions.v The entire device is very simple in construction and can be quickly 60 and conveniently manipulated for the purpose intended.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily understood, I desire to have it known that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is:
A concrete hanger insert comprising an elongated hollow bracket having a longitudinal slot in the bottom thereof, opposed edges of said slot having vertical grooves,'a
bolt receiving plate slidably adjustable within the bracket, a reduced portion arranged on one'side of the plate and having athreaded bolt receiving opening extendedthrough the plate, said reduced portion lying S0 flush with the opposed longitudinal edges of the plate, but terminating short of the ends thereof and formed to provide rounded lugs to be recevied by one pair of said grooves, I said plate being substantially rectangular and including two diagonally opposed rounded corners and two square corners, the latter cooperating with the op-- posed walls of the bracket to prevent turning of the plate while the bolt is being threaded thereinto.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
OMER L. DOWNING.
