Description

J. B. ROGERS Oct. 13, 1931.
ADJUSTMENT FOR ALIGNMENT OF ROAD OR SIMILAR FORMS Filed Sept. 25. 1929 ifi/9 7 /0 3mm/nto@ Jao lokgensg Patented Oct. 113, 1.9.31l
PATENT OFFICE y JACOB BRUMBAUGH ROGERS, OF ALTOONA, PENNSYLVANIA ADJUSTMENT lFOR ALIGNMEN T F ROAD OR SIMILARr FORMS i Application ned .september 25, 1929. serial No. 395,105.
rlhis invention relates to the construction of concrete roads`,`walks, or similar structures whereinA a plurality of adjustable forms are used to Valign the sides thereof, and the primary object ot this invention is to provide an. adjustable Vform that isy susceptible of being readily aligned to suit the surface of the ground over which the concrete walks or roads may be built.
1 10V Another object of this invention is to provide positive means of adjusting the forms where the top oi" the form may be thrown in or out to suit the required conditions for vertical alignment, together with means for v locking the forms in Vany desired lixed position.
. A further object of this invention is to provide the form with a U shaped yoke, which is adapted to fit against the side and bottom vflange oi: the form, each side of the yoke having a plurality of aligned perforations which co-act to secure the locking means.
With these and other objects in view, which will become more readily apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully pointed out, illustrated and claimed.
3o It will be quite readily understood b v those skilled in the art to which this invention belongs, that the same is susceptible of various changes and modications without departing :tromL the spirit or scope of the inventien, but a practical and preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the accom panying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 shows a perspective assembly view A of my improved adjustable road form.
Fig. 2 shows a plan and edge view of one of the locking plates which is shown in position in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
Fig. 3 shows a plan and edge view of the -Winterme'diate locking key which passes l through the central perforation of the yoke, shown in position in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Fig. 4 is a front elevational view of the 'form yoke, also-shown in position in'Fig. 1
i ,501 of the drawings.
Fig- 5 shows a side elevational view of the yoke shown inF ig. 4.
Fig. 6 shows a plan View of a modified arrangement for obtaining the same adjustment as is readily obtained with the device shown in Fig. 1 of the. drawings.
Fig. 7 shows the side elevation orn the parts shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings.
Fig. 8 shows an end elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 7 d
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.
In carrying out this invention in its most practical form, I provide an L shaped channel section designated in its entirety by the numeral 10, wherein the horizontal leg ofthe L forms the base, 11, of the form, while the outside of the vertical leg, 12, forms the surface against which the concrete mixture rests until itis suiciently set to support itself.
'The top, 13, of the form is bent back at right angles to the vertical surface, 12, and the edge, 14, thereof `is turned downward such as to givea greater safety measure when 714, handling the form.
. The yoke, shown` in Figs. 4 and 5 ofthe drawings and designated in its entirety by the numeral 15, is formed in a substantially U shaped section, having flanges, 16, at the top gturned outward at right angles to the body portion, 17, of yoke, and adapted to be securely fastened to the side, 18, of the vertical web, 12, as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the ,draw inss- The yoke, 15, is further provided with a plurality of outward projecting flanges, 19, each of whichis securely fastenedto the surace,20, of the horizontal leg, 11, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1. I 56 The yoke, 15, is still further provided with an outwardly projecting flange, 21, which is struck up from the bottom of the U shaped yoke and is also secured to the face, 20, of the horizontal leg of the form lange, 11. 92,5 y YT he yoke, 15, is further provided withapluralityy of rectangular slots, designated by the numerals-23 and 24, one of these slots, 23, is positioned above the horizontal center line of the `yoke while the other slot, 24,:is positioned 10e bottom.
below they line and in each of the slots a key, 25, is neatly fitted, as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The keys, 25, are each provided with a diagonally positioned rectangular slot, 26, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings.l
'I he yoke 15, is still further provided with an intermediate locking key',"28, 'which coacts witha vertically disposed locking pin, 2 9,
which passes down through the central opening, 30, of the yokel, throughieach of the diagonally disposed rectangular slots, 26, po- K sitioned in each" of the" keys,` 25,'"and thence into the ground, or similar foundation at the Having aligned theform Athrough the func-V v tion ofthe keys, 25, the yoke,f15, and the locking pin, 29, thekey, 2 8, is then drivenl into position, thus locking therod, 29, in its position 25. f
, A should a be desired@ 1re-align. hierom, the key, 28, is first removed, thus'perm'ittin the form to move with reference to therod. Should the top keybe then driven from left;
in each ofthe slots, 26,'in tliezkeys, f
v 4'; In combination with a metallic 'road form, a U shapedyokepositioned on the form, a worm shaped cam positioned in the yoke, means for rotating the cam,a pluralityV of keys forshiftingtheposition of the top and bottomof the form'and a locking rjod positioned onthecam within the yoke.
.In testimony Vwhereofl ax my signature.
' y JACOB BRUMBAUGH Roenes.
i to right, the top `of the formv will bvefthrown I n'toward the road andviee versa, after which auI with the'rod, 29, and shifts theformzin or out o the locking key, 28, is againplaced in position.4 Y,
',Asa further means of shiftingthle'formv v 10, on the rod, 29, I haveishown' ana-lternate f method, which employs a wormshaped cam shaft, 31, the cam surface of whi'chco-acts depending upon. theY direction of rotation iof the cam. The cam in'y this alternate'method lofalignment is positioned in a yoke, 32, which is securedto the vertical wall of the..form,-as
l shown in Figs. 7 and 8' ofthe drawings. Du-
plicate keys, 28, are illustratedin position in Figs. 7 and 8, and serve to shift the top lof the form in or'ou't'andfto lockthe same inv-posi- Vtion.V
