Description

ICE
' ALBERT E. KING, 015' DETROIT, MICHIGAN PROTECTIVE POCKET Application filed May 21,
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a protective pocket adapted for mounting in wearing apparel of different classes, such as trousers, overalls, coats, garments worn generally in which a pocket is positioned.
It is an object'of the present invention to provide a pocket having a constricted opening leading thereinto, .the pocket generally being enlarged for the containing of articles of considerable size, but of such dimensions that when turned in a certain position, they may be projected into the pocket and withdrawn therefrom easily, particularly by one experienced.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a pocket of this'class constructed and arranged for inserting into a garment whereby the fabric in which the pocket ispositioned may be securely fastened at opposite sides to eliminate a tendency of the pocket to turn inside out or to rise upwardly when the contents are being removed therefrom.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by a reference to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and in which,
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary side elevational view of a garment showing the invention applied, with a part broken away, and a part in section.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view similar to Fig. 1 with a part broken away and a part shown in section.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on substantially line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on substantially line 4-4 of F ig. 3.
As shownin the drawings, I have illustrated the invention applied to a pair of trousers 8 having the central seam 9 and the lation. The
1927. Serial No. 193,084.
side seam 10, these seams being in spaced reinvention comprises a sack-like member formed from two portions of fabric- 11 and 12 which are stitched together and projected through the opening or slit 13 formed in the trousers. One of the edges of the fabric portions 11 and 12 is stitched to the central seam 9 and the other portion to the side seam 10. A stitching 14 is used to join the fabric portions 11 and 12 together in the bottle-like form shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, a neck 15 being formed above the bulgedout portion 16. The stitching is so arranged that the neck flares as at 17. i
In use a pocketbook or bill fold 18lmay be inserted through the neck 15 when in the position shown in Fig. 2. When it enters the' bulged-out portion 16, this bill fold f will naturally assume the position shown inFig. 1, so that in order to effect its removal from the pocket, it is necessary that it be raised to stand on end and slide through the neck 15.
It is evident that witha pocket constructed in this manner, the removal of contents from the pocket by unauthorized persons is prevented, as the attempt to raise the contents to the proper position for withdrawal from the pocket would require such manipulation as to naturally attract the attention of the wearer of the garment. The flared portion 17 permits a ready and easy entry of the hand into the constricted portion of the pocket so that the wearer of the garment may removethe contentsfrom the pocket with ease and the entry of the hand into the constricted portion or neck be easily eifected.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of my invention, I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details of structure shown, but. desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a garment of the class described having a pair of seams in spaced relation, a pair fabric portions having opposite edges stitched to the garment at "said seams and stitched togetherbetween said seams to form a pocket, said pocket being constricted intermediate its bottom and the entry end thereof to prevent undue removal of contents therefrom, the upper end of said constricted portion being flared outwardly and terminating at a slit formed in the fabric. In testimony whereof I have signed the foregoing specification.
ALBERT E. KING.
