Description

. Jun 24, 1930. B. B. COURTNEY SURGICAL SADDLET'I'B Filed Nov. 22. 1929 Patented June 24, 1930 meant BENJAMIN 13. COURTNEY, OF NEW ORLEAllS, LOUISIANA I SURGICAL snnnnnrrn Application filed November 22, .1929. Serial No. 409,124.
The present invention relates to improve ments in surgical saddlettes, and has for an object to provide a soft yielding surgical pile saddlette with means to support it in place.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved saddlette for the treatment of piles in which the construction is simple and inexpensive and the use thereof not irritable.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention will be more fullydescribed hereinafter, and will be more particularly pointed out in the claim appended hereto.
. In the drawingsfwherein like symbols refer to like or corresponding parts through out the several views,
Figure 1 is a fragmentary rear view of a patient wearing .the improved saddlette.
Figure 2 is a similar view from the front.
Figure 3 is an enlarged plan View of the improved device with the belt partly open and the front straps separated from the belt.
Figure 4 is an enlarged side view, partly in section, of the improved pad.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal section therethrough, and
Figure 6 is a cross section taken on line 66 in Figure 4.
' Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1O designates a belt from which depend a rear adjusting strap 11, and a pair of front adjusting straps 12 and 13. These straps may be coupled to the belt, as by the use of a well-known form of garter fastening 1 whereby the straps may be removed from the belt. The straps themselves may be adjusted as to length like the ordinary suspenders.
A rear tape 15 s sewed or otherwise connected to the rear strap 11, and a front tape has its ends sewed or otherwise connected to the ends of the two front straps 12 and 13 which converge down from the belt. The
legs of the front tape are indicated at 16 and 17. The intermediate portion of the front tape is looped and'the free end of the rear tape 15 is knotted, as at 18 in Figure tight around the waist.
that the soreness wlll be greatly relieved.
5, to the looped portion. After tying the knot the free terminal part 19 of the rear tape is inserted within the looped portion and sewed thereto.
A wad'of loose cotton 2O is placed about the knot-18 and adjacent portions of the tapes and forms with the chamois envelope 21 a pad. The chamois is cut in the form of an oval and stitched together at its longitudinal free ends after being made to surround the body or wad of cotton. The tapes emerge through the unsecured ends of the envelope. Thread may first be Wound about the cotton if desired to bind it to the tapes.
In use the pad made of cotton, cloth tape and chamois will provide a soft, yielding saddlette shaped to fit flush on the rectum, supporting the piles within the rectum, thereby holding same in place andkeeping them from protruding or becoming irrifated; also preventing bleeding and itching and giving immediate relief to the patient.
To apply simply push the piles well, into the rectum, then adjust the saddlette pad to fit flush on the rectum and strap the belt It will be noted After being worn from three to siX days the device may be removed. as the piles Willbe greatly healed.
This supporter will be found not to cause the patient any inconvenience or soreness Whatever, and the patient may go about his duties without any uneasiness. The supporter is to be worn on the outside of the underclothing, and may be washed whenever necessary.
- The device may be made in either cotton I or soft rubber or other materials. 99
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claim.
What is claimed is A saddlette comprising a belt, a rear strap extending'down from the rear of the belt, a rear tape depending from the rear strap, a pair of front straps connected With the belt to opposite sides of the front thereof and extending down in convergent relation, a front tape having its ends secured to the front straps and its intermediate portion looped, the rear tape being knotted about the looped portion and having a terminal part inserted Within the looped portion and secured thereto, a Wad of cotton placed about the joined portions of the tapes, and an oval envelope of chamois brought together about the cotton wad and stitched to- 15 gether to form an elongated pad tapering at both ends.
