This invention relates to a cigarette or cigar holder and-hasfor its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter s'et'forth, an article of such class including means for conveniently securing and releasing a cigarette or cigar to and from the holder when occasion requires, and further-Withsaid means acting as an airtight seal around the cigar or cigarette at the outer end of the holder therei byproviding solely for the intake of the air through the cigarette'or cigar when smoking.

Further obJects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as'hcreinafter set forth,

a cigarette or cigar holder for the purpose referred to and which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong,'durable,' compact, pleasing in appearance, thorough- .ly eflicient in its use, readily assembled, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

'With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and "arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment ofthe invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto, appended.

A holder-in accordance with this inven? tion, includes a carrier section and a combined clamping and sealing section adjusta bly connected to the former and which de? tachably connects the cigar or cigarette to i the holder and also seals'the outer end of the latter. a v j Referring to Figures 1 to 6 of the drawings the holder includes a rigid, tubular mouthpiece 1 constituting the carrier section of the. holder and is formed of a unitary body of any suitable material. .The carrier section is tubular'and formed of'portions of diiferent inner diameters. The said portions of clifferent inner diameters are indicated at-2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. The carriersection has a reduced inner portion 7 providing the month end thereof and which is peripherally shouldered as at 8. The portion Qis of greatest inner diameter, the portion 3 slightly lessin diam: eter than the portion2, the portion 4 ofless diameter than the portion 3, the portion 5 of combined clamping portion 6 of less diameter'than the portion 5. The portion 6 is of greater length than any of the portions 2, 3, 4 and 5 and provides a smoke passage. 'The portion 3, w-hichis interposed between the portions 2 and 4 is providedwith threads throughout as indicated at 9. The portions 4, 5 and 6 communicate witheaeh other. The portion3 is closed to the portion 4 and to the portion 2, when the sections are connected together. The combined clamping and sealing section has a part thereof arranged within the'car-' rier section and is extended into the latter from the outer end'thereof. The combined clamping and sealing section is referred to generally at 10 and is of tubular form. The section 10 includes an outer part 11', an interinediate part 12 and an inner'part'13. The.

part 11 is of greater diameterthan the part13' and thepart 12 gradually decreases in diameter from the part 11 the part 13. The part 12 is of tapered contour. The section is formed with a plurality of lengthwise eX-' tending slits, as shown four in number, but this number can be increased or diminished if desired. The inner end of each slit 1s arran ed intermediate the ends of the inner portion 13 and the outer'end arranged, at the outer end of the portion 11.

-Each of the'slits is indicated at 1 1 and tapers, in opposite directions substantially from its center towards each end whereby each edge of each slit will be formed intermediate its ends with a point. The point of one edge of a slit opposes and is arranged in close proximity to thepoint on the other edge of the slit. The points on the edges ofeach slit coact to provide asealfor a purpose to be presently referred to. 'The points on the edges of the slits are arranged where the part. 11

merges into part 12. The parts 11 and 12 provide a clamp for a cigar or cigarette to detachably secur'eit to the'carrier, as when sectlon 10,1s screwed inwardly wlth respect to 'the carrier section 1, the outer end of the latter riding against part 12 will contract parts Hand 12 to'clamping position thereby deg tachably securing the cigarette with the carrier section, and at the same time the points on the edges of the slits will abut to, provide a seal to prevent the passage of air to the inner portions of the slits and also prevent the pas-- sage of air between 'the periphery of the ci or-cigarette and inner face of part 12.

Secured upon the non-slitted portion of the inner part 13 is a peripherally threaded sleeve 16, which has threaded engagement with the threads 9 for the purpose of securing section 10 to the carrier section.
